Publisher's summary

A heart-pounding new series set in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world, with a scientist fighting to save the timber wolves - and getting caught in a deadly trap herself....

Lydia Susi is passionate about protecting wolves in their natural habitat. When a hotel chain develops a tract of land next to the preserve, Lydia is one of the most vocal opponents of the project - and becomes a target.

One night, a shadowy figure threatens Lydia’s life in the forest, and a new hire at the Wolf Study Project comes from out of nowhere to save her. Daniel Joseph is both mysterious and someone she intrinsically wants to trust. But is he hiding something?

As the stakes get higher and one of Lydia’s colleagues is murdered, she must decide how far she will go to protect the wolves. Then a shocking revelation about Daniel challenges Lydia’s reality in ways she could never have predicted. Some fates demand courage, while others require even more, with no guarantees. Is she destined to have true love...or will a soul-shattering loss ruin her forever?

Be prepared for the long con!

The story is slow to pick up and you’ll have a hard time getting into the characters. Halfway through the book I was wondering if I was ever going to get into it. I kept listening because I am an avid fan not only of the BDB but also Jim Frangione. Last third of the book, I was firmly in, “not one of her best but, it’s OK”. Finally, when we got to the last four chapters I realized this is a set up, I’ve just been conned into the long-haul. Well played Ms. Ward, well played. Could’ve used more excitement in the beginning but, it accomplished its goal. I’m hooked and waiting for the next book.

Quite the Ride, But be Warned...

I've been wanting to dive into the Black Dagger Brotherhood, but since I'm OCD about starting at the beginning of a series, the number of books involved seemed daunting at this point. So when I saw this new series starting out that connected with the BDB, I jumped on it. It was great, as are all things Ms. Ward writes. However, there were so many elements and characters that transferred over from the BDB that I was lost occasionally in a world I knew virtually nothing of.

That being said, I did find the story itself to be good. The slow sizzle between Lydia and Daniel was pure delight, as were the twists and turns I didn't see coming in the plot line. No matter what you think, this probably isn't going to go the way you'll think it will.

Readers who are sensitive to rough language or graphic sex scenes should be aware that both are found in this novel. I was not surprised, but I was a bit disappointed to discover that this story ends with a pretty significant cliff hanger...really hate those things.

Excellent new story

I went into this not knowing what to expect as I pre-order JR Ward without reading the summary. I was pleasantly surprised with this story and I simply loved Lydia(feisty spirit and all), Daniel and others. I am on for this journey. Eager to get my hands on the next in the series.

Slow start!

The romance of the novel started very, very slowly so I didn't enjoy this one as much as many of this author's books. But it was a great story with great characters and I'll continue the series in hopes it'll get better!

Wow!

So incredibly good! I loved it so much I didn't want to stop listening. I can't wait for the next book, and I'm loving how each series is tied to the BDBH. Love her style of writing and love Jim's voice.

J R Ward never disappoints!

I am a huge J R, Ward fan and I am excited to see her, branching into another paranormal world. Good book, with a cliffhanger that leaves me wanting to start the next book right away.

Not your Typical Werewolf

Werewolves aren’t my favorite but I love Ward’s other books so I gave it a shot. It took a bit more for me to get into the book but that might have been because I normally read her books. I enjoyed the story but I am vested in the Brotherhood and enjoyed the tie in. This is obviously not a one and done. Like the new characters!

JR Ward does it again...and...?

This is a new start for those who love BDB characters. JR Ward spins her magical talent by bringing to life new characters in the world of magic and, wolves. Twists and turns and, as always, more to come. Worth every minute. Must read it to the end. Never a disappointment.
