Publisher's Summary

Battle mage or magical engineer? Easy choice, right? Engineer, obviously.

I'm Charisma Carter, tech genius and nerd extraordinaire. I actually used to be Charisma Silverstorm, member of one of the six elite Arcane Families, until my family shunned me when I turned 18 because my magic wasn't strong enough. However, where I lack in magic I more than make up for with the tech I develop, if I do say so myself. Apparently I'm not the only one.

From the minute I received my diploma as a magical engineer, it seems like my world has turned upside down. Now, members of all six families are competing to get me to work for them. They're willing to use anything...from bribes to charm. It's not enough that the heirs to Arcane are walking sex gods, they also have a lot of money and exceptional magical skills.

As our paths intertwine, I have to try to stay true to who I am, who I've always been, and not succumb to their charms. But how can a girl resist when the future she always dreamed of is right at her fingertips?

This book is a reverse-harem romance intended for adult audiences.

This author apparently has all the "fucks" to give

I know the f-bomb can be used diversely, but I've never heard it used so much outside a cell phone bill debate. It's quite distracting and really doesn't add to the story in any way.
The male narrator really didn't add much. His style seemed to be a verbal eye-roll or parent-who-has-something-better-to-do-than-read-you-a-book. He could have done a lot better.
Overall the story was not interesting enough to compete with the distractions.

😳….. Oh damn. That cliffhanger!!!

Chaotic was an entertaining read. It’s about a very talented young woman who comes from a prestigious named Charisma. Unfortunately, her and her family are estranged due to her level of elemental magic being weaker than what is expected from an Elite family. Her family kicked her out and she has since come into her own success.
Her family feels entitled to her skill set even though they kicked her out and I love how she keeps turning them down. She is a very strong character. More that I love about her, is her master in the martial arts, but at the same time she is suuuuuper clumsy. It’s the imperfections that make Charisma more relatable and likable.
So far, there are like 5 potential love interests. An ex, an online gaming friend, a old classmate, an Elite son who wants to hire her for her Engineering skills and another Elite son (different families) who is working with her at the magic CIA (not what it’s called but it’s what this is). The spice is slow burn, there are no committed relationships yet, but there are a couple intimate scenes to be cautious for those under 18.
I need to dive into the next book now!

Too much inner monologue.... story was still good

It had a really good story line started, but there was way too much inner monologue. There needed to be more actual interaction with the other characters. Other than that it was a pretty good story. I do love the main character

Not worth it.

So the author is a big fan of the “irregular at Magic high”. Change the device name from CAD’s to MET’s . Change the 10 families to the 7 families.

MC goes from being a dense male magical engineer, shunned from his family and society for having weak magic, with a secrect
Code name Taurus, amazing at Ninjutsu with super reflexes, with an overly loving sister to a klutzy female magical engineer shunned from her family and society for having weak magic, also amazing at Ninjutsu Code name Onyx with super speed, with 5 over attractive males who want nothing in life but to bang her.

Ok Anime sampling aside, female narrator great, could do it solo. Male narrator has one voice for every character. The men’s lust for MC comes out of no where and 70% of the book is internal monologue.

Glad I found this series

I almost didn't try this series after reading the reviews, but I'm glad I did. The narrator is great, the characters are colorful, and the story line is awesome. This is an all around entertaining read that I highly recommend. I am so glad I tried this series.

Love the book, don't line Tristan James.

truly enjoyed the book but I did not like listening to Tristan James the male narrator because it was boring to listen to him. tell the difference between characters when he read and he had about as much animation in his voice as a robot.

Aletha George the other hand is an absolute delight to listen to and she has done other books that I have really enjoyed. Because of her I kept listening to the book but overall I really wish they had chosen a male narrator with more animation in his voice . Tristan James was painfully dry to listen to.

New favorite female character

I love this character! She’s fierce and nerdy and smart and fragile all wrapped up in one. Some really funny writing. Can’t wait to read the next ones!
Female narrator excellent. I agree with other reviews that the male narrator leaves much to be desired-could be so much better with a different/better narrator but it’s not so bad that I didn’t enjoy the story.

Chaotic

What a fitting name for this first book. A lot going on, and the narrative is outstanding n this series starter. It does end on one back of a cliffhanger, so be ready with book two!

Technically magic

Enjoyed the story and the female narrator. The male narrator almost ruined the story for me. He makes any females voices sound very annoying and his male voices all seem the same.

good narrator, but story not for me.

Love the narrator, but not into the character at all. She’s a genius engineer and a master of martial arts, but also totally a relatable clutz who loves video games. The world was kinda interesting, but the horny comments just were not working for me and really got in the way.

do not get the audio, it ruined the story...

I hate being negative, but the book nerd in me requires truth for this review. I have never been so frustrated with an audiobook before... ever, but it wasn't just because of the narration that this book was a let down.

I have other books featuring Tristan James, but tjis one is by far his worse performance. He was rather flat, like really flat. There was minimal emotion, but he was not given much to go by in order to bring out the personalities of the male characters. (this is a big negative due to the authors lack of investment on the male characters; 70% of the book is told from the female POV)

Needless to say, since this book is majority female POV, Aletha George was a big fat NO on this one. Her tone was bad, she was horrible at pronouncing Bastille's name (She pronounced it Bah-still-lay ... ), and when she depicted the male characters, there was little to no effort that every chapter made me cringe. How embarrassing and a big let down to readers that the author didn't proof the audio to make sure that character names were at least pronounced correctly. I sped up the audio to get through the book to see how the story would unfold.

I wanted to like this book. The main character's meant to be quirky, a little bit of an underdog, clumsy, but somehow badass. The world concept wasn't half bad either especially since the author was trying to merge magic and technology. I just wish she put more effort into actual character development. Instead of going on and on about how clumsy the FMC is, maybe spend time on expanding the MMC's personality traits. If they weren't mentioned by name, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the different guys.

If the books weren't included in KU, I wouldn't continue on with the series.

Meh

Didn't like the male narrator. He sounded too old for the twenty-somethings he was meant to portray.

Story about a girl awesome at everything, wanted by everyone, blah, blah blah. Yet somehow she's still a missfit. Eh.
Finished on a huge cliffhanger yet I truly couldn't care less.

This one wasn't for me - not the target audience.

Writing was polished enough and female narrator was good.

If you live urban fantasy with some romance

Loved this series so much I can’t wait for the rest of the series to be narrated so I got the rest of the series on kindle. The first book ended in a cliffhanger! I enjoyed the narration a lot too and liked that it was a male and a female narrator. A little flirtatious steaminess sprinkled through the book which I personally enjoyed, definitely looking forward to any future urban fantasies by this author! Read this now
