Publisher's Summary

A new story from the best-selling and award-winning master of suspense, introducing Colter Shaw.

Colter Shaw is a career "reward-seeker", making his living traveling the country and locating missing persons, collecting reward money in return. So it is not unusual when a wealthy entrepreneur hires him to track down his wife, an enigmatic artist who vanished one month before.

As Shaw begins to investigate, he suspects that she was fleeing a bad marriage, and he follows her trail to an artists' retreat in Indiana. The case takes one surprising turn after another, and soon, Shaw begins to wonder if this mysterious woman is more of a captor than a captive.

Deaver sure knows how to twist a plot!

Shaw goes after the reward for finding a man's artist wife. He finds her pretty fast and things are not as they seem--twice!

Loved it

I really enjoyed this short story. I will definitely order the next Shaw series full sized book. If it’s as good as Captivated, it’ll be great. The storyteller has a great voice, great pure entertainment.

Fair mystery story

This is a mystery story that is ok but just too meandering for me. I know we need a back story but this one jumps from past to future and back to the present too many times. Like I said, it is a mystery but it doesn’t flow very well.

Superb and efficient tale!

Truly interesting and fresh. The master of surprises, JD gives a Midwestern breath of intrigue to these normally sleepy communities. I'm fast becoming a committed fan!

Wish it was longer

This is a good story but wish it had been fully fleshed out. Still a very good read (listen).

Too short of a good read!

I really enjoyed this short story by Jeffrey deaver, however I do wish that it was made into a longer book I feel like it could be fleshed out so much more. I want to know more about the characters!
