Editorial Review

Eating your way to a healthier mind
As I’ve grown older and wiser I’ve started to rethink the concept of “comfort food.” And since I consumed a metric ton of sausage stuffing last month, I’m really rethinking it. Because I actually feel best, and most comforted, when I’m eating a nutritious diet (I just need to be reminded sometimes). And there’s no one better to remind me than Uma Naidoo, a nutritional psychiatrist and trained chef. In her sequel to This Is Your Brain on Food, she tackles the world’s most diagnosed mental health condition—one that she herself suffers from: anxiety. (I’ve been known to be a bit anxious myself). What Naidoo understands maybe better than anyone is that anxiety is rooted not just in our minds but in our guts. And this listen is just the inspiration I need to put the sausage stuffing behind me and start the new year with the ingredients for a healthy body and mind. Bon appétit! —Phoebe N., Audible Editor

Calm mind with food

Enlightening, based on the purpose for which I read it — nutritional psych. It’s properly researched. Used in conjunction with my other education it will serve me well.

Very Informative

This was a fantastic and informative book. Dr. Naidoo makes clear the connection, in a science-based way, between what we eat and how we feel. It’s good to know that it can be within our power to limit anxiety’s affect on us.

Interesting but not new.

The reader is excellent. The book is nonjudgmental which is nice. But honestly if you ate this way you would be depressed and broke lol. I guess you could incorporate some things but it’s always about this vegan sprouted lifestyle that few can really do. Just my opinion. Still worth a listen. I listened to the whole book and did get some good take a ways.

I started with skepticism

but the science is persuasive. I appreciate the caution around pressing for 1 size fits all, as well as promoting flavorful foods with familiar (as well as a few exotic) ingredients. The idea of a Mediterranean diet, with world flavors & recipes.

Not Much New Info.

It was fine and, of course, a quality work but nothing ground breaking or new as I’d hoped. Lots and lots of antidotes. If you are well read on clean eating and/or anxiety, you won’t likely benefit much. If you are a new comer, you will definitely learn lots. As with most of these books, the recipes are a bit time consuming with expensive, hard to find ingredients … I may try 1-2.
