Publisher's summary

Kill the traitor-prince.

The cry for Wes Malcolm's death has followed him from Earth all the way to Avalon, and an entire new breed of Hordebeast has taken up the call. Howling wolf-men now hunt him as an escaped convict, a false teacher, and a traitor to a legacy he had rejected immediately. Worse yet, he must fight not only for his own freedom, but for the prisoners he rescued from the dungeon on this ruined world.

Now he needs to evade the monsters long enough to get the former hostages to safety, then grow strong enough to battle his hunters and win. To do so, he’s going to have to delve into the ruins of this world and discover ghosts and secrets from another age, including the hidden history of Earth itself.

He cannot fall here. Too many worlds have put their hope in him.

Sequel to Downfall and Rise.

Epic portal fantasy with LITRPG/GameLit elements. Features profanity and adult themes. Also features a multi-bodied alien nerd-girl with a penchant for wearing ironic Earth t-shirts as a love interest. You have been warned.

good for the most part

the narration is fantastic but the mental breakdowns every 30 minutes got old very quick. middle of a large battle, mental breakdown. having a chat with his companions, mental breakdown. everything else about this story has been absolutely amazing but I can't help but mash the skip button when he has a breakdown in the middle of a scene

Loving this story!

There is plenty of adventure, action, and even a slow burn romance brewing. I’m enjoying every second of this story and can’t wait to read and listen to the next in this series.

Story is so-so, but the narration is amazing.

the story drags on to the point I wanted to skip ahead. too much inner dialog and trauma. the narrator's are both amazing though. I wish they would narrate less Haram books.

More! I need more!

The 2nd installment of this series and I'm ready for book 3 and 4.

The story continues to grow and you are completely drawn in with adventure. There are times that something
happens with the story line and I'd think to myself "I didn't expect that to happen". The plot is ever evolving and the
character growth has depth and emotion. I am truly enjoying the series and look forward to the next books.

Chris and Jessica have done an excellent job narrating. The story is rich with adventure and voices tie it all together.
No matter what character they are voicing, it is well done and ramps up the excitement in every scene. A story is
always filled with emotion, but great voicing brings it to life and leaves you with a craving for more.

2nd book is fairly similar to the first

I guess to start, the narrator got really into the voices, at least for Wes. it's not the only thing I like, but as someone actively reading it and intending to continue, I wanted to note things that I considered particularly off-putting, irritating, or just otherwise noteworthy.
Wes is a lot less idealistic, but the story struggles with the "show, don't tell" rule on that front as he often reflects how distrustful he is now. it gets a bit grating when the gritty character needs to remind you they're gritty and depressed. Moreso, while Wes does think and is even witty at times, certain reflections that don't make sense send him into a full-blown panic. things with far fewer implications than what he's outright ignored. it gets annoying when he realizes the world wasn't what he thought in high school when he's literally in another world. The world already isn't what he thought. To be fair, he's been through quite the trauma, but that kind of leads to the next point. His rather brutal torture is about the only real challenge he faces. Everything is just conveniently weaker than him.
To avoid being solely negative, I want to clarify that my negatives are as a reader, the things I just find annoying. things like stress not really translating well in the story. The story itself has weight, history, a good bit of mystery to it, good fantasy stuff, and doesn't spam stats at you. you could honestly forget it's a litrpg. it's not a perfect story. Parts are downright corny, but it's not quite what I'd put as mid. it's a bit above average. The narration is good, even if Breena's voice feels like it's carving out my eardrums sometimes, and Wes isn't a total loser or idiot. Just incredibly melodramatic at times.

Enjoyable Narration

Read the story and loved the performance from Christopher and Jessica. Their performance had me feeling more for the characters and their highest and lowest moments. Hope they continue to narrate the rest of this series.

Fantastic series

The narrators a wonderful job splitting each character voice and definition so you can tell each is totally different even those who are similar, they do a perfect job bringing this world to life
