Publisher's summary

I always knew I was different.

I'd thought it had to be hidden - to stay a secret.

I didn't know my secret would become the key to my survival.

Turning 18 and getting accepted into college brings me everything I need to escape from the nightmares of my past but I never could have imagined my nightmares - and dreams - were just beginning. Finding myself thrown into a world of fantasy, politics, friendships, and rules that are nearly impossible to understand, I feel like I'm drowning in a world of shifters I never knew existed. As I struggle to find my place and prevent my nightmares from tearing me apart, I find myself surrounded by an unusual group of sexy men. With Hiro, Killian, Theo, Damien, and Ryder I'm trying to become the woman I've always wanted to be, if my past, and my future, will let me.

Contains mature themes.

incomplete

it's a good start, but it cliffhangers before any plotline is concrete. books in a series should have complete independent plots that run into an over arching plot. hate feeling like I've read 3/4 of a book.

Wonderful story, inconsistent narration

I love the story, but the female narrator is annoying (she hisses her S's, it's very distracting) and both she and the male narrator are very inconsistent in their accents. The men are from all over the world and the voices used by the female narrator is nothing like the one that the male narrator uses, and they both tend to fall out of the accents in the middle of a chapter.

And the Japanese character mispronounced the name of his own species, which drove me nuts each time he said it.

I love the story itself though. I already have the books and enjoyed listening to it instead. I still probably won't spring for the others.

Mixed bag

I enjoyed reading this book more than listening to it because the female narrator was not able to perform the various characters well. Any character other than nix signed like Minnie mouse. The male narrator was phenomenal as he expressed many accents and feelings of the characters.

Oh Dear (fill in the blank)!!!!!!

Help! I am a puddle and can't get up! Plot is pretty good and the few kiss scenes there are, were hot as embers. Pun intended. This is a reverse harem so if you're not into that, move on; if you are, definitely get this book! Readers do take time to get used to.

Good story / meh narration

Narration:
Male narrator does a great job with the male voices. But his female voice makes the FMC sound like a bratty valley girl. Portrays the wrong personality for her.
Female narrator is fine for the FMC but HORRIBLE for all the male characters. Her accents are way off.

Story: loving the first book and anxious for the 2nd to be released. Great storyline and plot intrigue.

Great story but narration could be better

The male narrator did a great job with all the different accents but female narrator of male characters was not nearly as good and it was distracting. I prefer dual narration style.

Listened to all 7 books

The character develop we see from start to finish is AMAZING. Throughout this series you see so much personal growth. This series talks about the subjects that are often ignored and it brings them into the limelight later on. Overall you see the growth and strength of each individual. Yes it's a RH. But it's the first I've seen where it's not all about sex(although those are some great scenes). The narators did a fantastic job.

Nearly Ruined By Narration

Overall, I really loved this series.

I thought the world building through the series was very detailed and engaging. In addition the authors presented some really interesting atypical representation of mythological/paranormal creatures.

While some of the character development was a little glossed over, I found myself very invested in each character. Nix was definitely frustrating at times, and it was tough to empathize her at times even with the constant reminders of her traumatic past. To be honest I found myself caring more about each of the guys and eventually got to a point where I didn’t really care to much about what happened to Nix.

The major downside of this experience was the narration. While the female narrator hand an interesting raspy quality to her voice, her acting and narration style eventually grew tiring and I actually sped up the her chapters to get through them faster. The male narrator had a nice voice, but his acting was very distracting. Both narrators were also terrible at their attempted accents and opposite gender voices.

I did read the rest of the series as I really enjoyed the story, but I definitely won’t be listening to anything else narrated by these particular artists.

Oh My Fire!!

I am writing this after just finishing book 5 in the series. (Still waiting for the last 2 books to be released)

Spoilers Ahead!!

First, the sex scenes start off slow in books 1 and 2 but then get pretty hot and steamy. Mainly MF but some slight MM action is happening. Some epic dominate scenes with a few of her guys that will have you wanting to find the rope! They all focus on her pleasure which is always hot! Group sexy times along with heavy voyeuristic tendencies make all 7 if them happy!

Second, all the guys are different and wonderful. The addition of their Alters to consider adds a new level to the story. Ryder the flirty healer unicorn. Hiro the compassionate caring kitsinea. Killian the big grumpy pookah. Damian the protective sexy gargoyle. Theo the intellectual akward kraken. Finally Joshua the self sacrificing basilisk. Nix is the best by far being the most powerful, caring, bad ass Phoenix around! She has come so far already and I'm excited to see where her story ends up.

Third, the rebellion is taking shape. The others invested in taking down the counsel are astounding! I can't wait to see what Renie and Kiren are going to do next!
