Story
In a realm where one’s magical power determines one’s worth, Lady Everleigh’s lack of obvious ability relegates her to the shadows of the royal court of Bellona, a kingdom steeped in gladiator tradition. Seventeenth in line for the throne, Evie is nothing more than a ceremonial fixture, overlooked and mostly forgotten. But dark forces are at work inside the palace. When her cousin Vasilia, the crown princess, assassinates her mother the queen and takes the throne by force, Evie is also attacked, along with the rest of the royal family.

Story
For the past few hundred years, most of what we’ve been taught about the native cultures of North America came from reports authored by the conquerors and colonizers who destroyed them. Now - with the technological advances of modern archaeology and a new perspective on world history - we are finally able to piece together their compelling true stories. In Ancient Civilizations of North America, Professor Edwin Barnhart, Director of the Maya Exploration Center, will open your eyes to a fascinating world you never knew existed - even though you’ve been living right next to it, or even on top of it.

Story
Megan Conroy thinks she has problems; she's struggling to pass math and with only one year of high school left she still has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She certainly never thought she'd become a witch. A near miss from a speeding car triggers an inexplicable rush of power within her, leading to strange, recurring dreams and encounters with even stranger creatures. After being saved from a demon by her classmate Finn, she finally starts getting some answers. Meg, he explains, is now an awakened witch; a person whose dormant magic has been brought out by trauma. Real witches, she learns, are nothing like the broomstick-riding figures she's used to from movies.

Publisher's Summary
Deep in the Appalachian Mountains, a monstrous evil rises, and the only one who can stand against it is a teen-age witch who doesn't believe in magic.
Grieving and lost after the death of her parents, Jenny Morgan is sent to West Virginia to live with an aunt she's never met. It's there that Jenny is confronted with an unbelievable family heritage of witchcraft and magic - something she immediately dismisses as old-fashioned superstitions. However, once her new home is threatened by deadly horrors straight out of myth and folklore, her aunt's stories become impossible to ignore.
Now Jenny and her three new friends - friends with dark secrets all their own - are the only ones who stand a chance of stopping the growing evil, but only if Jenny can embrace her arcane heritage. Little does Jenny know that wielding her power will attract the attention of an even greater evil - the same immortal entity her parents died to protect her from.

Magic, ghosts, and mysterious death
Jenny’s parents were just found dead and she’s sent to live with an aunt she’s never known. She comes to find out that she has magic even though she disbelieves these things until faces with a woman who might be behind the deaths of her parents. Will Jenny rise to the task? Will she accept her heritage? Great characters and gripping story.

Good
A good introduction to what looks to be a series of books since there were a lot of little loose ends left at the end.
The Narrator did a good job for what looks to be one of her first gigs.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Fantasy Folklore!
Someone said this started out slow. They're wrong. My attention was grabbed from the beginning. While I read this book, forest fires were threatening my home. through all that, I couldn't put the book down! Well done Jay!

Lots of action
An interesting mix of characters comes together with a creative mix of monsters and confused motivations to create a story packed with action, twists and turns, and some romance.
The world building was really well done, I spent the whole book picturing everything that was happening. The book came alive for me.
The characters are well crafted and feel whole and real, their actions seem natural and they're easy to connect with.
Thoroughly entertaining this book left me wanting more even thought the story ends at a good stopping point. I enjoyed my glimpse into this world and I want more of these characters and the world they're in.
I enjoyed the narration, the pacing and phrasing carried the emotions of the story and the character voices were believable.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Great
I got this book via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review. This was an entertaining story that was fun to listen to from beginning to end. I am not a fan of horror stories but this one was pretty good. The narrator was good and helped move the story along.

Good read
The story was pretty good. Not my favorite but I might listen to it again. Janel is a pretty good narrator, especially since this is probably her first time, I can’t find anything else she has read. She is definitely one to watch. I would listen to her stuff again.

Awesome!
Get to know Jenny, a teenage girl who is sent to live with her aunt after her parents are killed. She soon learns of her magical ancestry and she and her friends are on a mission to destroy the evil that threatens to envelop them all.
Action-packed, well written and well narrated story - a gem! Really loved the world that the author, Jay Barnson, created. Janel Valentine did a great job narrating :) I was engrossed in the story, and really enjoyed it! Definitely recommended :)

Very enjoyable
This one had me from the first page... With the death of Jenny’s parents. I like how she found her aunt and with that she found herself and a purpose. Lots of twists and you never could tell what was coming next. Great performance, great job with the characters and accents. She really kept me enthralled in the story.

Fantastic!
My daughter and I really enjoyed listening to this on a road trip together. The beginning reminds me a bit of True Blood.
