Publisher's Summary

An irresponsible twentysomething comic and his equally shameless grandmother join forces as proud pariahs in this dark and rowdy story of dicey family ties, kindred spirits, bad behavior, and bribery.

When Rory’s judgmental mother told him that he took after his grandma Evelyn, he took it as a compliment. The ninety-two-year-old cocktail-toting, offtrack-betting party girl was every bit the troublemaker he was. When she landed at a dead-end nursing home, Rory jumped at the chance to liven things up for bored Evelyn - with vodka, scratch-offs, bingo, and gaming. But even in this modest assisted-living casino, the risk of betrayal was a gamble.

Rory Scholl’s Black Sheep is part of This Can’t Be Happening, a collection of four true stories about making the best of a worst-case scenario curated by Kevin Allison, creator of the hit true storytelling podcast RISK! Outrageous, alarming, triumphant, and sometimes embarrassing, these fearless confessionals can be read, or listened to, in one what-on-earth-would-I-do? sitting.

Meh.

Unremarkable story, no surprises, snarky narrator/author. This doesn't bode well for the future of the series.

Almost incomprehensibly bad

A poorly written and presumably autobiographical story about a pitiful loser who lazily careens through life making unfunny jokes while pounding himself on the back. I have no clue how this fits into a This Can't Be Happening theme.

Terrible terrible

Story about a smart mouth kid who obviously has zero social awareness and a clear disregard for any authority. Don’t waste your time.

Just not my cup of tea

I just do not want to listen to someone who doesn't have any respect for others

Black Sheep

What a fun different look at the black sheep of the family. Every family has one right? This audiobook is read by the author and that is always a plus in my book. Rory Scholl does a good job of narrating this audiobook. I instantly fell in love with the Grandmother, why you might ask well she reminded me a lot of my own Grandmother. The book is short but worth your time perfect for your commute.

Author Clever....but

The story telling was smooth and interesting. I wanted to hear what was going to happen next...until the end when it turned just to very bitterly sad. Too bad.

Sassy Grandmas Rock

Perfect 45 minute story that made me smile and picture myself in 50 years. The author read the story and his inflection kept me engaged. I enjoyed listening to this story.
