Publisher's summary

From the magical moments on set as Draco Malfoy to the challenges of growing up in the spotlight, get a backstage pass into Tom Felton’s life on and off the big screen in this #1 New York Times bestseller.

Tom Felton’s adolescence was anything but ordinary. His early rise to fame in beloved films like The Borrowers catapulted him into the limelight, but nothing could prepare him for what was to come after he landed the iconic role of the Draco Malfoy, the bleached blonde villain of the Harry Potter movies. For the next ten years, he was at the center of a huge pop culture phenomenon and yet, in between filming, he would go back to being a normal teenager trying to fit into a normal school.

Speaking with great candor and his signature humor, Tom shares his experience growing up as part of the wizarding world while also trying to navigate the muggle world. He tells stories from his early days in the business like his first acting gig where he was mistaken for fellow blonde child actor Macaulay Culkin and his Harry Potter audition where, in a very Draco-like move, he fudged how well he knew the books the series was based on (not at all). He reflects on his experiences working with cinematic greats such as Alan Rickman, Sir Michael Gambon, Dame Maggie Smith, and Ralph Fiennes (including that awkward Voldemort hug). And, perhaps most poignantly, he discusses the lasting relationships he made over that decade of filming, including with Emma Watson, who started out as a pesky nine-year-old whom he mocked for not knowing what a boom mic was but who soon grew into one of his dearest friends. Then, of course, there are the highs and lows of fame and navigating life after such a momentous and life-changing experience.

Now with a new chapter Felton delves into his experience of fame, Beyond the Wand is an entertaining, funny, and poignant must-listen for any Harry Potter fan. Prepare to meet a real-life wizard.

So enjoyable

I am a huge Harry Potter fan, but, understandably, NOT a huge Malfoy fan. I thought that I would give this a listen, though, because it sounded interesting. I am so pleasantly surprised at how imminently enjoyable this book was! I laughed, I cried, and I have been inspired to do some soul searching of my own. Listening to it read by Tom Felton instead of just reading it only heightened the experience! I highly recommend this book!

A Heart of a Gryffindor

Wonderfully written book and a fantastic audiobook performance by Tom Felton. This book gives a heart felt, self reflection of Tom Felton’s life and career in his autobiography. Felton truly has a great deal of self awareness and a keen ability to share his ups and downs with the world in a presentation that will have you feeling nostalgic and laughing, but also feeling shocked and surprised. It is apparent that Felton has a huge heart, as he describes his relationships with his fellow coworkers and family and his interactions with fans and his charity work. It also takes a great deal of bravery to share the challenges of stardom. I admire Felton’s openness in discussing his challenges and I have not doubt his words will help others going through similar situations. Felton may have brought to life the Slytherin character Draco Malfoy, to whom we love and hate, but after reading this book, I suspect there is a seat at the Gryffindor table for the real Tom Felton.

Couldn’t put it down

This is a love story… a story about his love of life and how he lost it and found it again. You feel like your listening to your bff tell you a story and also like your watching an awesome TV show. He’s animated and sincere, it rolls along effortlessly. He is a true joy to listen to. When it ended I wanted to start it over again. But I put it down and found I was feeling like I had just left one of the best yoga classes of my life. I felt touched, calm and happy. Thanks Tom for sharing so openly, honestly and positively. Your a gem!

Raw, honest, and real.

Tom Felton was wonderful narrating his story. Doing this made it more raw and honest. Too often those that are not familiar with fame forget that those individuals are real people with similar struggles as ourselves. Mr. Felton did not sugarcoat or gloss over his struggles, rather he intricately explained the rollercoaster of life that so many battle daily. The self-care and mental health message is comforting and real. Thank you, Mr. Felton for being a "Wiseman" to others.

Fame and Money are nothing if you aren’t a rich man

Draco was the boy who grew up being the scripted bully while Tom the man was extremely sensitive and highly aware of want it was to be fallible and humble. After listening I truly look forward to seeing Tom stay in gratitude, advocate mental health awareness, and become the richest man we know.

Tom Felton is quite the fellow

It was nice to learn more about an actor who owns a role I have enjoyed my entire life. At some points, I feel like it’s just a story about his life. Yes I get that’s the point of a autobiography, however I’d wish I found a few more greater purposes/messages/lessons to learn from his journey rather than just narration of events. I still enjoyed this book and have found a new admiration for a familiar face I have known my whole life. Thanks Tom.

A great window into Tom’s life

If you wish to know about behind the scenes of the Harry Potter movies, as well as Tom’s life and experiences, this is the audiobook for you. Tom delivers a captivating performance reading the book, and it’s definitely a plus that he reads it himself!
Will definitely listen to it again!!!
