Publisher's Summary

Ezekyle Abaddon and his warlords strive to bind the newborn Black Legion together under threat of destruction. Now Khayon, as Abaddon's most-trusted assassin, is tasked with ending the threat of Thagus Daravek, the self-proclaimed Lord of Hosts - a rival to the Ezekyle's final fate.

Fighting the vile whispers of the Dark Gods within his mind, Abaddon turns a fevered gaze back to the Imperium, where his destiny awaits. Yet the Emperor's Champion and his Black Templars stand guard at the gates of Hell, and Sigismund has waited centuries to face Abaddon in battle.

PART 3 NOW!!!!

I'm loving how this series is developing and Kayon is one of the most interesting characters in warhammer 40k. I will be buying the next part in this series.

ADB does it again.

Loved this book. It's a great sequel to The Talon of Horus. Before I knew it, the book was over. Eagerly awaiting the final installment.

wow!

I love everything ADB does and this is as good as it gets. I never thought I would find a series from 40k that would make me laugh and have me enthralled while connecting links and opening new doors in the lore. I love this series and can't wait for the next one.

Black told in shades of gray

First let me just say I would love to just shake Aaron Dembski-Bowden's hand for this one.

It has been a long long time since I enjoyed and was enraptured by a story so much. I found myself taking the long way home, or even driving in circles around the block to get through sections, I could not step away.

I have been in warhammer 40k universe since the early 90's. Chaos to me was always brutal, visceral and mindless. No honor all war. The great enemy etc etc. Dembski-Bowden throws a whole bucket of monkey-wrenches at this concept with his depiction of the Black legion and even Abaddon as characters with deep honor and not the pawns of evil gods, but as resistant pawns in their game. The characters have so many layers and depths that the impact on me was striking as I considered the implications of what I was hearing. This story paints the Imperium of Man just as guilty as the 'heretics'.

Just an amazing amazing book and the way Jonathan Keeble read the story(told in the perspection of the protagonist, Khayon, brings this sardonic, calculating and deadly character to life.

I have bought the previous book now and am going through Talon of Horus. (I had not realized I was in book 2, derp) and am very anxious for more on this line.

Just great

I absolutely love this narrator. Even more so when he is reading a well written book. I’m not even a fan of the chaos legions but this was an awesome listening experience.

Excellent follow up book

Second book in the series, not quite as good as the first, but a damned good sequel. It has its good points all the way through, but didn't quite give the same feeling as the first. I really did cling to the characters in the first, but not so much in this story. That being said its still a hell of a book and worth a listen 9/10

A deeper insight into the Black Legion

As with the first book, a very well written and compelling story that gives an interesting and in depth look at the beginning of the Black Legion.

Aaron Demski-Bowden does a great job of conveying the tragedy that has befallen both the Traitors and the Imperium itself. Both of which have become a shadow of what they were before the Horus Heresy.

Great, even for loyalists.

Despite reading Warhammer 40k for years now I've always avoided novels focusing on the Traitors. Yes, even The Night Lords books which every fan tells me are amazing. I picked this up more for the fact that Sigismund and the Black Templars were mentioned in the description. Despite, Abaddon and the Black Legion being the obvious focus the narrative still managed to fairly portray both sides and, dare I say it, actually made understand the Traitors point of view. The fight between the first High Marshal and the Warmasters sucessor was as intense as you would expect. A must listen (or read) for any 40k fan. And yes now I'm going to find the Night Lords Omnibus.

Definitely worth a listen

I have a on , off relationship with the black library. There are some good and some awful , this thankfully is the former. An enjoyable book that keeps you wanting to listen.

Superb!

Aaron is on form, as usual. Not many can write for Chaos as well as him! And Jonathan Keeble’s voice really brings everything to life! Perfect book to follow up the Talon Of Horus.

Good read, solid 2nd entry in this series

I enjoyed this but would say Talon of Horus was slightly better. Relationships between the main character aren't covered as well as in the first novel, and hence some of the motives and connections seem a bit thin. That said, I still recommend this book and am looking forward to the next outing of Iskandar and the Black Legion
