Publisher's summary

What does power and responsibility look like for Christian men in our world today? Becoming a King offers men a guide to becoming one to whom God can entrust his kingdom.

Journey with Morgan Snyder as he walks alongside men (and the women who love and encourage them) to rediscover the path of inner transformation. Becoming a King is an invitation into a radical reconstruction of much of what we’ve come to believe about God, masculinity, and the meaning of life.

Curated and distilled over more than two decades and drawn from the lives of more than seventy-five men, Morgan shares his discovery of an ancient and reliable path to restoring and becoming the kind of man who can wield power for good. With examples from the lives of the great heroes of faith as well as wise men from Morgan’s own life, break through doubt and discover the power of restoration.

In Becoming a King, you will:

  • Reconstruct your understanding of masculinity and who God truly intended you to be
  • Learn to become a man of unshakable strength and courage
  • Reclaim your identity, integrity, and purpose

Traveling this path isn’t easy. But the heroic journey detailed within Becoming a King leads to real life—to men becoming as solid and mighty as oak trees, teeming with strength and courage to bring healing to a hurting world; and to sons, husbands, brothers, and friends becoming the kind of kings to whom God can entrust his kingdom.

Audiobook-exclusive content includes: Extended prayers, additional reflections, and a conversation you won’t want to miss. Morgan Snyder gathered three of his closest allies who have all lived, breathed, and consented to the message of Becoming a King for over a decade. Hear their stories and lock arms with them in the unshakeable hope that more life, strength, and joy are available than we have been led to believe.

Critic reviews

'I'm always reluctant to write blurbs for book, and I didn't want to write an endorsement for Becoming a King—but then I read it. It's not sanctimonious advice written by somebody who's never had his knuckles bloody or his hands dirty or his heart broken; it's the honest account of a man who's been where every man needs to go sooner or later. I don't like to sign my name to things that don't matter. This matters.'

—Randall Wallace, Oscar-nominated screenwriter, film producer, director, Braveheart, We Were Soldiers, Heaven Is for Real

'Morgan Snyder has taken the journey that he so compellingly invites other men to embark on in his beautifully written and wisdom-filled book. Courageously honest and true, Becoming a King is a worthy read that you will come back to time and time again and, as Morgan expresses so well, a noble calling to pursue. As a woman reading Becoming a King, I was inspired with how to better come alongside the men in my life, to lovingly encourage them in their lives' ultimate calling.'

—Stasi Eldredge, New York Times bestselling author of Captivating

'Morgan Snyder simply asks better questions. His pursuit of the root system of manhood, fatherhood, and royalty brings us within reach of deep truths that could help us outlast the modern brutal storm. This book is for the soul-hungry, sick-of-the-BS reader, which is why I love it. And Morgan picks a much better fight than you'd find in any ring in Vegas or any back-alley bar. His fight is for his own heart.'

—Jared Anderson, singer and songwriter of The Great I Am

Results From 2 Months of Reading

Things I have done as a result of this book in the past two months:
1) learn how to chop down a tree and make firewood
2) pray for best friends, and fight for my friendship with them
3) care more about who I am becoming than how much money I have or my accomplishments
4) be patient with myself
5) learn to hear God's voice, and learn that He is kind and not critical
6) instead of feeling "Behind" every day when I wake up, declaring that I am a son, and that my Father has already been at work for my good before I wake up
7) admit that I don't know something, ask for help, and learn (this is how I'm currently learning to fish)
8) have fun, and value having fun (I'm learning to skateboard too)
9) own and carry a knife, and feel confident using it
10) stop being afraid of power and violence and learn to use those things for good (why I wasn't paralyzed when I was needed to rescue a woman from a Rottweiler attacking her)
11) believe that in order to know God I must spend time with Him...and be inspired to actually spend time with Him
12) not be afraid of being unproductive, and am able to more joyfully and wholeheartedly spend time with my kids

And this is just the tangible results of 2 months of reading. Becoming A King is a 10 year commitment.

One of my top 3 Christian genre ...

Becoming a King hit places in my heart that I thought had been recovered. It opened the eyes of my heart to places that needed to be awakened. Again? For the first time? Both.

I would recommend Becoming a King to any man that wants to create a full hearted life, to reach further into the frontier of his heart with God, with other men. We all want to step up and be able to tackle life. Becoming a King will guide your heart, will bring clarity to climbing the right ladder: to one that brings true life, and bring it to the full.

I have read many books in the Christian genre, and Becoming a King is one of my top 3 (the other two were written by John Eldredge and Andy Stanley). Morgan Snyder has grown into this message...and delivered it in the right moment.

Revive your Masculine Purpose

This book was created at an amazing time in my life. I when to Wild at Heart Boot Camp this Feb.. and immediately after read John Eldredge Fathered By God and Get your Life Back.....
As a guy that Grew up without a Father, I had an amazing adventurous Childhood.... and realized that My Father, Our Father God was there the whole time.
This book is the icing on the Cake for me in that walk...……… thanks Morgan..

Eh.

I got this book for the lessons but didn’t realize it was full of a bunch of Jesus crap but I’m going to endure it even though it’s annoying bc I’m sure there are still lessons to be learned.

Way too dramatic of a reading

As someone well into my own healing journey this read fell super flat. That said, if you are just starting out on your healing journey and becoming a king this may be the book for you. The biggest issue I had is the way this guy/author reads. It is completely one dimensional, overly dramatic. Simply, is difficult to listen to. It’s like a 10 hour dramatic monologue. It feels like he is trying too hard with every single word. I encourage a re-recording of this book. I think the book could be more impactful that way.

Must-read for men who want to know who they are!

I've been on a journey recently of understanding who I am and whose I am. The concept of false self is something I've been wrestling with and this book helped me better understand how I've believed lies about my identity. Loved this book and would recommend it to anyone looking to better understand their TRUE identity as a son of the King!

Incredible book - needed by every Jesus follower

I can’t express how much I enjoyed and nodded my way through this book. Thank you Morgan! And thank you to all whose shoulders you stood upon to write this book. I can’t encourage people enough to read this bike and tell everyone you love about it. I’ve long been a fan of Wild at Heart and their books and ministry - and this book demonstrates both a continuity and a new wave of their reach and message. So much of what Morgan wrote put into words what I’ve been longing for someone to express and speak to, questions I’ve had and been wrestling with myself. But along with the questions he gives tangible direction to walk in and work toward in a daily way. I can’t say thank you enough. I have been and will be continuing to recommend this book to all who will listen!

Life Changing

I would reccommend this book for every man. It is filled with so much life and hope. The wisdom contained in it is not pie-in-the-sky stuff, it is real and accessable.

The gravity of this book is the authenticity and raw courage with which Morgan Snyder squares off with the deepest questions that haunts us as men. He uncovers a narrow road, an adventure that I desperately longed for.
