I wish more authors would narrate their own books. This book is so much more powerful because John Eldridge reads it with the tone he wrote it in! That makes such a big difference.

Production notes aside, this book has literally been life changing for me. I didn’t realize the stages of manhood that I was never initiated in, and that many of my life’s trials were God my Father’s sovereign work in my life to initiate me into a new stage of manhood! Now I want to pass those trials instead of side-step them. Truth be told I’m in the middle of a heavy one right now, and I’m about to listen to this again with the workbook. I can not recommend it enough.

This book is excellent at opening your eyes to the many stages on your journey with God. It is especially helpful for man who haven’t had an example of what that even looks like. Well worth the time.

What a great outline of where we’ve come from, where we are, and where we’re headed as men.
John Eldredge again does an excellent job of calling the man to see the strength that God has given him, to grieve the weakness and missing parts in the journey and encourages him to give both to God to be used as God sees fit. Like Wild at Heart I’m fired up when I read this book to be intentional, to fight, to learn, to love and go climb a dang mountain!

This book will help you be happier and make others happier. The stories kept me engaged even though I thought I might get bored. If you want a book that makes you a better person and not just a book for entertainment then this is for you.

Excellent book

This is an outstanding book for men, and for the women who love them. I think it's important to understand these concepts if you have a man in your life, whether that's a son, a father, or a husband. It will give you a better insight into them. And as a man I think much of this resonated with me and other men I've spoken to. I think John Eldredge did a great job authoring and narrating. one drawback for me is that I'm not a huge fan of how he claims to audibly hear from God- "God told me this" or "God's voice whispered X to me." But I appreciate how he points people to Jesus in the book and I understand the point he's making. All in all this is a really good book with profound insights into the heart of many men.
