Publisher's summary

Becoming Us is a wake-up call for couples who feel stagnant, revealing what happens when two people in a committed relationship risk seeing each other from a fresh perspective.

Couples often enter into marriage with a potentially harmful assumption: they assume they “know” themselves and their spouse. The reality is that whether a couple’s been married a few months or many decades, conflict and misunderstandings happen. Beth and Jeff McCord provide a glimpse into how the Enneagram, used from a biblical perspective, brings astonishing clarity to couples so they can break free from self-condemnation, fear and shame, by knowing and experiencing the unconditional love, forgiveness, and freedom they have in Christ. Beth and Jeff guide couples through discovering their Enneagram type and core motivations, as well as those of their spouse, gaining insight into how their family of origin shapes the way they relate to their spouse, and understanding what “assumicide” is and how to put a stop to it. Couples are made for an intimate and thriving marriage relationship. For those baffled by the person sleeping beside them and looking for an instruction manual, Becoming Us serves as a roadmap for couples to transform into the best versions of themselves-together.

Good book but didn’t care for the Audible version

I have been learning about the Enneagram and love Beth McCord!! I listen to a lot audible books, but did not care for this one due to the Narrators. Their voices sound robotic, so I found myself zoning out a lot. I prefer audible books where the Author is the narrator. Other than that I would recommend... just not the audible version.

Finally - practical help.

Since learning of the Enneagram 3yrs ago, I've ingested a lot of content in hopes to 'right my ship' and better my marriage. This book was surprisingly more effective and helpful in comparison to other books I have read. I appreciate these authors were bold enough to aim at a niche that realizes incorporating faith plays a critical role in finding healing and getting the most out of life. I have since signed up for advanced courses on this authors website and am again appreciative of the authors jump into guided video learning systems that make the content more easily understandable, convenient, and relative to today's effective learning models.

Too much!

The content is too much for an audible. There is not enough inflection to make you want to listen.

Wonderful

I have been following the McCords for a few years now. I have done a couple of Beth’s trainings and really appreciate the resources she offers. Together, she and Jeff have created a wonderful book for couples, but even more than that, this is a resource for partners. I’ll be adding this in the premarital counseling I do as a pastor.

Contradiction to Christian based self help materia

This material was advertised to be Christian based but as I began to listen, I realized through a brief research that the essential fundamentals of this book are based on Mellinial Satanic ideas.

Great information

Although the material is interesting and very good it is delivered in such a dry manner that it’s hard to listen to for any length of time. Feels like a textbook.

Wait till it goes on sale

The entire first part of the book was nothing but an advertisement for the book – a very very very lengthy one. The second part of the book was repetitive and yet sometimes still unclear. A resource, for certain. But, not deep enough to be of much real use and too wordy for you to wish they would go deeper.

Great information!

There is so much great information in this book and so much to reflect and ponder on! I listened and realized I needed to buy the book so I could go back to particular sections, reread and mark it up for further study.

decent relational book for enneagram lovers

Lots of Christian cliche used without explanation of the same. A person not exposed the same teaching will not understand.

I really like the tips on how to interact with the different types. This gives hands on tools as well as theory.
