Publisher's summary

There are two kinds of women in the world - those I can bang, and those I can’t.

My teammate’s sister?

She’s a can’t.

I moved in with her to protect her from a nasty ex, not to be the next guy in line.

She’s the brains.

I’m the brawn.

She’s the fruit.

I’m the sausage.

She talks too much.

I don’t talk at all, if I don’t have to.

Should be easy to resist her.

But every minute I spend with Felicity is another minute she gets under my skin. She makes me feel like something more than a dumb puckhead with a big Zamboni pony. And it’s getting harder to remember why I need to keep my hands to myself.

Beauty and the Beefcake is a vegan-friendly standalone romantic comedy featuring a hockey player whose vocabulary is the only thing smaller than a hockey puck, a book smart but aimless ventriloquist with too many voices in her head, a dilapidated old house that may or may not be haunted, and no cheating or cliffhangers.

Love me a good Hockey romance

I enjoy a good hockey romance, and this one did not disappoint. It was Hysterical... Pissed off Granny ghost? check. Phallic cookies? check. Ventriloquist? check. Misunderstood Hockey player? Check.

If you aren't laughing out loud during the first 90 seconds of this book, you need to sit down and relax... it was such a good listen.

LITE, LAUGHS & LOVE.. WITH AN UNDERCURRENT OF DEEP

Pippa Grant has written a hilarious yet moving Rom Com with heart about Felicity, a talented quirky genius ventriloquist whose multiple mental puppet personalities (and inanimate objects) are always ready and eager to chirp in with their own particular views on things.. which is unique, refreshing and riotously fun. Felicity has made bad choices in men and she’s all over the place when it comes to her career which she often derails and starts again. But Felicity loves loves loves all things related to Thrusters Hockey and, with a brother already on the team, she hopes to someday work there too. So, this mild mannered tale is centered around Thrusters.. and especially, as it turns out, the budding romance between Felicity and the withdrawn, misunderstood beefcake giant of a skater called Ares Berger who grunts, mumbles and awkwardly stumbles his way through conversations. Because Felicity sees beyond his damaged cold facade.. and he sees and accepts her quirks and vocal personalities too.. so it should’ve been plain sailing for this match made in Heaven right?.. but, in the talented hands of Ms Grant, this well-written well-paced dual POV romance didn’t quite play out that way.

Wen Ross is always good.. but Virginia Rose’s well-timed multiple personality narration of Felicity and her ‘on board’ characters was pure Audible gold and I’m sure there aren’t many actors out there who could constantly and creatively perform such an intense wide variety of characters.. make the interactions seamless.. make them loveable.. and make them so much fun too.

Worth a credit? Well, if you’re looking for something different, something that has humor, heart and heat, something that has a wide variety of living and fictional secondary characters and something that’s touching, sweet and unique.. then yes I’m sure you too will find this Rom Com a compelling creditworthy listen.

Weird but brilliant ...

This really was masterfully crazy. Felicity is unique and beautiful and vibrant and a mess. I went through all the feels; I laughed, I cried, i rolled my eyes, I got mad, I got confused, I got irritated and in the end I was in love! Aries and Felicity are the heart gushiest couple I’ve fell for in a while. This is the second book I’ve read by Pippa Grant and I am obsessed with her humor and they way she can pull at my emotions. Brilliant stuff !!!

Let’s not forget the audio talent. Ross and Rose were amazing. There were a lot of different voices required for Felicity alone, big pat on back for Rose for a job well done. Ross represented well for Felicity’s characters when he was at the mike. Their collaboration really brought Grant’s story to life.

I have loved and read all of pippas books since I first found them. They’re great love stories and really funny. I had read this book before but wen Ross really brought aeres to life and loved Virginia roses interpretation of felicity and all her puppets.

Second hand embarrassment

I really can't with all of her puppet voices. I could not even get through the first 2 chapters.

A monkey + multiple personalities

A sweet story with lots and lots of personality, like lots of them! Oh and a monkey.

My only criticism was the way the male lead was read. He came across as “Neanderthal-ish” yet didn’t really seem to have been written that way.

Lots of laughs and tender moments. Very cute story.

LOL fun

The voices took a chapter or two to get used to but towards the end there was a moment I realized she hadn't done the voices and I legit missed them and was happy when they came back.

Standalone in a series

Aries and Felicity. This book kept my attention the entire time. What’s better then a man that doesn’t talk much getting together with a ventriloquist? Once again I love these characters and their relationships. Fun and lighthearted. The narration was awesome! I definitely recommend this book/series. 🎧 Audiobook Obsession

Fantastic

This made me cry in places ugly cry but it’s a comedy you say why yes it is and it is so funny that I laughed in so many places I cried and hiccuped and it was not pretty. However this book made me feel like I had been on a vacation as all good laughs should. There are some interesting concepts and just amazing characters.

Couldn’t recommend it more

loved the story

I loved this story but the heroine was a bit annoying with all the voices I think that was taken a little too far but it was funny at first but after a quarter into the book I found myself rolling my eyes at her.

Loved this book

I read this book a while ago and loved it. It was hilariously odd, with Felicity and her hand puppets, the non-speaking Ares, Felicity's trouble seeking brother, Loki the monkey, and then a fabulously fun but wacky supporting cast (many of which now have their own books). I laughed so much. But also, I teared up a lot because underlying all these laughs were two people who were a bit misunderstood and I adored how they were opposites but yet, each other's biggest champions.

I was so happy to revisit this book via the audiobook. And my goodness, Wen Ross with his low but smooth voice was perfect for Ares. He really bought the character to life. But then, on a dime, he switched to a feminine voice and it was believable and smooth. And Virginia Rose was amazing!! She seamlessly navigated multiple roles and I especially loved (and snort-laughed) through her interpretation of the different puppets. Really, this was the kind of book that I would think would be especially difficult for the narrators but they did a beautiful job bringing this fantastic, funny book to life.

What a rollercoaster read ~ weird and wonderful ❤❤

Absolutely loved this story with its hilarious characters especially Felicity and her multiple personality voices!
The growing relationship between Aries and Felicity was so sweet as they were totally different personalities.
An excellent storyline made even better thanks to the narrators (that beautiful deep voice of Aries sent shivers down my spine 💕💕)
I would have loved to rate this 10 stars because I really needed all the good laughs this story provided.

Adore this pair!!!

Having read the books in this series I thought it was time to listen to the audio books.

Wen Ross & Virginia Rose are great as Ares & Felicity. Strong performance from both, loved their voices and the whole audio was easy to listen

From a fab series which I would most definitely recommend, Beauty and the Beefcake gets 5 great big stars from me!

Hooked, brilliant hockey romance

Words cannot describe how much I love Ares and Felicity. Ares is everything you could want in a hero and more. Felicity would be so cool to know. Pippa's writing has classic comedic timing. And both the narrators are perfect for the parts. I loved this story when I first read it. Love it more being my first Audio book.

excellent narrations

I usually stick to paranormal romance novels but all my current are emotionally heavily and I just needed something light and easy and this was this first I saw and honestly, I was not let down it was sooo funny and love the big gentle giant who doesn't talk. Only reason it's not 5 stars is I didn't quite get the whole hockey obsession or constant ventriloquism but still a great book.

FANTASTIC

I loved listening to this audiobook. The romance in this book is such a feel good one that leaves you feeling amazing. This story is about two abnormal people finding each other and showing that you don't have to be normal to be happy. This has two awesome narrators who fit the characters perfectly and in a way I definitely wouldn't have been able to. Listening to this was definitely amazing and was just another of those books from Pippa Grant that was amazing. Pippa Grant is definitely one of my favorite authors and this book is definitely a great example why. If you loved the blurb or the sample and think you will like it, I would definitely recommend this book to you. Enjoy!

Great story

I really liked the story, it was sweet and funny, Narrators were great, especially Wen Ross as Aries, although duet narration would have made it better. I only gave it 2 stars because of the ventriloquism. I get that it was an important part of the story however when the character constantly changes voices it got annoying and was no longer funny. I think if I read the story instead it wouldn’t have been an issue, but grated as an audio version.
