The Chosen One is Late on RentKav leads a platoon of war machines known as Avatars, 20 meter tall mecha fashioned from the bodies of dead gods. You don't just pilot them. You are the machine. Once merged with the magitech core you see through its eyes, and you are immune to the petty magics of mortal mages. You become a god.

The catch? You don't own your ride. You rent it from the Inuran Consortium, and they have ways of keeping you indebted. You accept any and all missions without question. Failure means joining the ranks of the unbonded, and sold to debtors prison.

Kav is horribly outnumbered by necromancers fielding Avatars of their own. They cannot be reasoned with. Their motives are unclear, but nothing survives their passing. They're even worse worse than the Draconic Alliance, which are also hunting him. Somehow he must outwit both.

Yet larger events are at play. Something terrible slumbers within the heart of the asteroid he must defend, and if it wakes a dark goddess will once again plunge the entire galaxy into war, a name not whispered for ten thousand years...

Nebiat.

Battleforged introduces players to a new epoch of the Magitech Chronicles, which is set 10,000 years after the events of the Magitech Legacy series. The RPG is in development and will arrive at your table soon!

I really enjoyed the Magitech Chronicles, so I'm excited there's a sequel. With mechs. Lots of mechs. I played a ton of HBS Battletech and MW5, so I really appreciate the down on your luck mech company, going into impossible situations just to try and keep the lights on. That's what we have here and I'm here for it. Characters were well done, story is engaging, and it looks like Chris is really setting the story up for something big.

The narrator does an excellent job, as always. He nails the voices and accents.

Overall a great listen and I'm looking forward to book 2.

Great initial putting to this new story set in a great universe. I think I have an idea of where things can be heading due to what’s being set up and I’m looking forward to more!

Glad to be back in this universe!

First, if you haven't yet had the pleasure of listening to Ryan Kennard Burke narrate a story, and provide distinctive, nuanced, occasionally accented voices for the characters, while balancing cadence with pronunciation perfection with the scene, then you are in for quite the treat. Bringing to mind movies like Edge of Tomorrow, Robot Jox, and Pacific Rim, listeners are enticed with mecha constructs and battles, facing off against similar opponents but also those using wizardry abilities. But all wars are not equal, and sometimes enemies can become allies, and your fighting equipment is only on lease. Full of crisp world-building details, authentic witty dialogue, and negotiating tactics that would make Captain Picard proud, we follow the mercenary-like exploits of a fighting group with something to prove. [Disclosure: I received this title for free and listened at 2.0x.]

Gritty, spacey, human (mostly), dedicated, combatants

What’s the difference between avatars and mechs? What kind of magic are we talking about here ? The dragon people had French accents in space? I needed more clarification . I gave up about chapter 30 of getting any explanations of my questions. Does feel AI written but the word count is probably interesting. Not that long of a book. Won’t pick up the sequels

Needs more world building
