Story
His grandfather’s lynching in the deep South, the murders of his two older brothers, and his verbally harsh and absent father all worked together to form Jason Wilson’s childhood. But it was his decision to acknowledge his emotions and yield to God’s call on his life that made Wilson the man and leader he is today. As the founder of one of the country’s most esteemed youth organizations, Wilson explains the dangers men face in our culture’s definition of “masculinity” and gives listeners hope that healing is possible.

While most contemporary Enneagram books stop at the descriptions of the nine types, Enneagram teacher and The Sacred Enneagram best-selling author Chris Heuertz uncovers the missing link in our journey of living into our true self: radical self-compassion that can bring us back to belonging. Rather than get stuck on stereotypes or curated personality, Heuertz proposes we develop an honest relationship with our type, confronting our "inner dragons," practicing self-compassion, and thereby coming to fully belong to ourselves - and, ultimately, to love itself.

Story
Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on 12 years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity.

Publisher's Summary
Read by the author.
Countering a culture that coerces men to suppress instead of express, Jason Wilson calls us to unlearn society's definition of masculinity and discover the power of engaging with and mastering their emotions.
For decades Jason Wilson was losing the war within - the internal battle that many men wage daily but were never taught how to win. As a result, he could not combat his toxic thoughts and emotions. Instead, he was conquered by them and communicated without composure - hurting those he loved and himself. This went on until he renewed his mind by releasing years of past trauma. His life and relationships were transformed when he learned how to master his emotions and express them with self-control. In the process, Jason became a better husband, father, and leader.
In Battle Cry, Jason equips you with the mental and spiritual weapons needed to wage and win your inner war by showing you how to:
- master your emotions rather than be ruled by them;
- win internal battles before they become external wars;
- reject the world’s definition of masculinity and embrace comprehensive manhood;
- communicate more effectively with the people in your life;
- release trauma from your past so you can live fully to your potential in the present.
You can live beyond the limitations of your mind and finally experience the life you’ve always longed for. You can break through what you’ve been through. It’s time to win the war within!

Not Bad, Not good: a Lukewarm Book
overall the book is well written and has some great stories and philosophies that are practical sprinkled throughout.
however, it is for a very specific kind of audience: Religious Folks. The author relies too heavily on Bible scripture to make a point and it feels either inauthentic at times or too forced.
I don't mind a little scripture in books, especially if it emphasizes the point. however, nearly every point feels like the author is trying to evangelicize at every turn. This takes away from the book and leaves me wishing there was more diversity in his usage of quotes.
I was hoping for a book that was similar to Ryan Holidays "the obstacle is the way," but instead it became abundantly clear in the early chapters that, aside from anecdotes of his own experiences and a few others,, the Bible is the ONLY book the author seems to reference.
if you're a Bible thumper, you're likely to enjoy it far more than I did.
however, if you're a philosophy buff that appreciates diversity in your consumption of thought provoking literature, stay clear of this one, it gets monotonous in its overall tone and pacing very quickly.

Religiously Saturated
I like Jason's message and wholehearted agree with much of what he says, but there's SO MUCH scripture that it's hard for the non-religious to really absorb a lot of the points. As an atheist although I appreciate and support his work, it's a huge turn off to hear more Biblical quotes than a 400 Club PSA, and being told repeatedly that so much of what Jason prescribes requires a relationship with a higher power.

As great as I expected.
I originally heard Jason speak on the Joe Rogan podcast and I have to say I was Really impacted by what he said on the show As a multi racial man and father myself. After listening to the book I have to say it was definitely everything I was expecting from him and gave me some great insights and Ways to look at the world and myself through a different light which is refreshing and super beneficial for my mental health . I will say the book is a bit too heavy and the religious side for myself as one who does not believe in a particular religion but outside of that the book was perfect.

I came across this book at the perfect time though I wish I could of learned these eternal truths much sooner. Assuring
This was a great Book. Especially as a Woman it helped me to get a deeper insight into what most men deal with emotionally, and how to also practice many of the practices that were suggested. I would love to hear/read the author's wife's perspective in how she to wages the war within in fighting side by side with her husband from a woman and a parent. I think they could write a great book together about Marriage and parenting if they haven't already.
This book is very Gracious. I enjoyed how the Author didn't leave out his failures and how he was able to resort to the Most High for clarity at all times. Blessings

Dissapointed
The importance of what Jason has to say ( I had heard him speak on Joe Rogan) was too swamped in religious packaging that it read ( Kindle version) and sounded too much like an Infomercial. This may be a cultural thing and it may sit easier with an American audience.

Story
Bronx-born top turret-gunner Arthur Meyerowitz was on his second mission when he was shot down in 1943. He was one of only two men on the B-24 Liberator known as Harmful Lil Armful who escaped death or immediate capture on the ground. After fleeing the wreck, Arthur knocked on the door of an isolated farmhouse, whose owners hastily took him in. Fortunately, his hosts not only despised the Nazis but had a tight connection to the French resistance group Morhange and its founder, Marcel Taillandier.

Story
In 1177 B.C., marauding groups known only as the "Sea Peoples" invaded Egypt. The pharaoh’s army and navy managed to defeat them, but the victory so weakened Egypt that it soon slid into decline, as did most of the surrounding civilizations. After centuries of brilliance, the civilized world of the Bronze Age came to an abrupt and cataclysmic end. Kingdoms fell like dominoes over the course of just a few decades. No more Minoans or Mycenaeans. No more Trojans, Hittites, or Babylonians.

Almost a century after his death, John Marshall Harlan’s words helped end segregation and gave us our civil rights and our modern economic freedom. But his legacy would not have been possible without the courage of Robert Harlan, a slave who John’s father raised like a son in the same household.
