Publisher's summary

Gabriel "Fox" Morrison is starting a brand new chapter in his life. He spent years drifting after his time in the military and finally felt ready to settle in one spot. This leads him to becoming the head detective of the recently opened Stonewall Investigations in Miami. His first case is one that not only hits close to home, but the result could have huge repercussions for more than just him and his client.

It's a case so big, he decides to enlist some help.

Jonah Brightly is ending a huge chapter of his life. Him and his girlfriend have zero spark and his professional career is in shambles after an on-work incident leaves him with more than a physical scar. A new job as a private detective would be a lifeline he so badly needed.

He goes in for his interview and meets Fox, the man who changes everything for him.

Both of them are rocked by an unexplainable force, and both are left questioning everything they've known in its wake. As they form a bond, they learn there's much more that brings them together than holds them apart. But can they keep fanning the flames of their newfound passion, or will they be consumed by the growing fire?

Contains mature themes.

Such an enjoyable listen

I loved this so much. I am officially a huge fan of Max Walker; he proves himself a great writer again and again. I have really enjoyed all of his characters and their connections with one another, and I love the whole Stonewall team.
The mystery that they are all trying to solve helps to create another element to help move the story along, but at the same time it does not drown out the story of Fox and Jonah either.
*slight spoiler* As for Fox and Jonah, some may not appreciate the pace in which they connected and got together, but it worked for me 100%. I have a hard time caring when stories don't have the characters connect until the very end, so I appreciated that we got to experience Fox and Jonah's attraction for one another throughout the entire story.
I am looking forward to what Max comes out with next!
Oh and of course Greg Boudreaux was amazing as always; he brings the characters to life beautifully!

Jarringly Unbelievable

I wanted to give this one the benefit of the doubt, but there are just a few too many things that tip towards the negative for me.

- Insanely fast instalove (especially when one of the MCs still considered himself to be straight at the time)
- An imbalance between the development of the MCs’ interpersonal relationship and the private detective storyline
- So many juvenile inner monologues
- So so so many plot holes and other plot elements that are patently unbelievable

For the final two chapters, I just kept hearing the line from those car insurance commercials that were popular several years back: “That’s not how that works. That’s not how ANY of this works.”

Another perfect 10!

Listened straight through, totally worth the credit and can’t wait to get all of Max Walker’s books, this is my 2nd. And of course, Greg Boudreaux is one of my favorite narrators. Love his voice 🔥🔥

An okay start to a new series

I absolutely loved the original Stonewall series & was so very excited when we headed down to Miami. What I didn't like is the story was all about the two of them & basically all sex. The mystery took a back seat, way back seat. Even though I was disappointed with this one, that won't stop me from continuing on with the series.

story?

this story does not have a well developed plot line/story ... and the tension falls flat... it never seems to go anywhere.

Worth a Listen

Bad Idea is a decent way to spend a few hours and be entertained while listening to Greg Boudreaux's lovely voice. Some readers might be put off by the "instalove" that happens between Jonah and Gabriel, but I think sometimes human biology is extremely strong between two people, resulting in mutual lustful attraction. Both these men are single, although Jonah hasn't explored anything but hetero sex and is in the last throes of a dying relationship with a woman. Jonah's back story makes him a perfect candidate for a PI at Stonewall Investigations and Gabriel is in need of a partner to figure out the source of a new drug infiltrating the gay club, Trinity. The story is cringe worthy in a couple of places when Jonah and Gabriel don't force the issue about security footage from Trinity not being available for weeks; when they find the initials LMP in the phone of a middle guy in the drug getting from source to club since one of the three owners is named Lucien..... there's a few more obvious fails that two intelligent and experienced detectives would not have overlooked in the real world. That said, I enjoyed the listen, the sex scenes were steamy, and the ending a HEA for Jonah and Gabriel.

Decent story. Good narration.

The melodrama and hormone fueled plot continue. If you appreciate either one of those, you will enjoy the story. I had a little trouble with ex-girlfriend hate. She may not have been a sweetheart, but she probably didn't deserve to be lied to either.

I have been listening to the Stonewall series, and something kept bothering me about the storytelling. I couldn't quite sort it out until this book. The problem is the first person narration. Some of the internal dialogue doesn't match the character's personality. Describing the sunset in eloquent details if the the character doesn't speak eloquently just doesn't work. This made parts of the narration feel uncomfortable to me.

I also had a little trouble with the way a former law enforcement officer behaved. The author tells me the character was law enforcement, but he seems to be missing some of the quirks you expect if you know one. More show and less tell would help me believe the story a bit more.

I appreciate the social commentary and the the characters do seem to have chemistry. This is a decent read/listen if you are looking for a steamy story with detectives.

Too whinny

I really liked the previous series but this one is full of too much whinny bullshit, I liked the previous series because it didn’t have much of that but this book has way too much

Sweet but needs more story

I usually like my books to have a great story with sprinkles of great sex scenes, this was sex scenes with a sprinkle of great story. It was so written, the characters are fun and sweet but a little more story would have been nice. Greg was amazing as always.
