A world destroyed. An axe to grind. And a path to infinite power. Welcome to my reality.
I've survived my tour of the Hell Worlds… no… scratch that. I did more than just survive—I damn well thrived.
I've unlocked secret knowledge, advanced to the edge of the Sacred Soul Realm and even managed to perform feats of cultivation that no one in history has ever done before.
And now it's time to put my new-found strength to the test.
My path hasn't gotten any easier and a new set of trials awaits me upon my return home. Good thing I got a damn good barrister and a family of loyal supporters to back me up.
Theres been a lot of shady business going on while I've been away.
But Daddy's home now and there's going to be hell to pay.
Path of the Berserker 5 is a progression fantasy novel that contains immortal cultivators, an oppressive intergalactic dynasty, rage-inducing imperial bureaucracy, magical spirit beasts, fantastical martial arts, and one pissed off MC who's sick of it all. Fans of western style cultivation fantasy like Cradle and post apocalypse LitRPG like Savage Awakening and Defiance of the Fall will enjoy.

As good as always. Better than the last two books easily. One of my favorite series now.

If you were concerned that the story would stagnate in this one, don't be! It takes the 4th spot in favorite books overall, and favorite of the whole series for a reason!
Spoilers below!
Starting with the positives; Max building himself as a character throughout the book was refreshing. Though there was a lot of spiritual progression in the last book, what with the twin dou and all that. This one kind of focused on developing him as a character more in my opinion. Big fan! Between the in depth cultivation improvements and revolutions about the inner world I found tons of enjoyment in, I think my favorite part of the book was the training arc in the smithing village. It was a welcome break from the bureaucracy and fighting. That final Kaiju fight at the end was not in my bingo card, but super fun! The antics with Lunala and the gang were fantastic and a huge highlight for me.
As far as the negatives, there were some minor grammatical errors every now and again, and Rick Scott's pet phrases can be excessive at times. Not a big deal. I really struggled to understand what was going on with Eyzolicks (no idea how to spell it lol) in the Forest of Souls. I re-listened to the whole event just to try to get it better, but it's still pretty confusing to me. Ultimately I understand that he's no longer chained to the mortal realm or Isandra anymore so he can pressure dark frenzy wherever he wants. Good enough for me! It works to progress the story and push Max to break through to true godhood in the next one.
My biggest issue with the book is that what was stopping Max from breaking through to the Lesser Diety realm felt pretty weak. It only really came up as an inner conflict a couple times in passing before hand and felt sudden in the moment. I think the conflict with not being able to marry Fia and being forced to be with the princess would have been a better spiritual blockage, especially since he breaks through right after he gets that settled.
Ultimately we are set up for a really solid rest of the series. Between breaking through to true godhood, developing the inner worlds, ruling the earth, dealing with the lack of barriers and imperial law enforced by the pagodas soon to be inflicted on them, not to mention every moon and surely tons of stars getting railed with dark frenzy we're in for a wild ride!!!!
Can't wait for the next installment. If you're on the fence, buy it twice over man!!! If the previous books were Lemonade, this is that electric blue Atherite Energy Drink!!!
Thanks to Rick for the fantastic book, and to Wayne Mitchell for the excellent performance!
New levels of Scale and Lemonade!
