With nowhere left to run and nothing left to lose, Evran does the only thing he can—he pleads with the stern warlord and offers a bargain that will bind their fates together: his absolute service in exchange for Vaike's protection.

mostly ok

absolutely love the narrators voice and performance. The book had a good plot and/or premise, but I felt like the story was dragging on and very repetitive.
Not enough dialogue or btw the two MCs in the first half of the book to build the chemistry.

New favorite narrator, lovely story

The narration on this is some of the best I've listened to, and I am going to immediately go see what else this actor has narrated. I loved the story, it was a fun twist on the barbarian/tribute trope, and I appreciated how careful the author (and Voilke) was with the power imbalance.

The characters were easy to love, the villain easy to hate, the world building was well done, and the romance swoony (and just the right amount of steamy).

Overall, this was an absolute delight and I can't wait for more from both author and narrator!

this is one if those nice easy listening story. no aggressive agnst, a nice amount of yearning, and no dumb problems.
the narrator does a great job too.

Emotional Depth

This book really pulls on the emotions. At some points I felt as if I was the one experiencing what was happening. Well written and an even better performance. I could have appreciated a little more steam. But overall a good listen.
