Morrigan has finally found peace with who she is. Now she has to prove she belongs.

Back in the capital of Doppelta with her father, the Demon King, Morrigan discovers her older sisters have only grown more powerful in her absence. To claim her place as heir, she must succeed at the Nachtstern Festival, a grand celebration where every race of the Underworld competes in magic, strength, and skill.

But the festival is more than dazzling contests. When Morrigan meets Galandir, an elven slave desperate for freedom, she is forced to confront questions of justice, loyalty, and what kind of ruler she wishes to become.

Little does she know that beneath the festivities, something darker is stirring, a force that could shatter the fragile peace of the Underworld itself.

Book two of a cozy isekai series, blending slice-of-life with the trials of a heroine finding her place in a dangerous world.

I enjoyed this book much more than the first. Now that Morrigan is old enough to have some agency (instead of pretending to be an infant for 90% of the book), her hijinks are much more enjoyable to follow - though I frequently found myself wondering why the isekai plot exists at all. It has very little impact on the story, and even Morrigan seems to forget occasionally that she is actually thirty years old (the scene where she gets grounded felt especially ridiculous.) Still, if you liked book one, you'll like book two. I look forward to book three.

Much better than book one
