Acerca de esta escucha

He’s not here to save the world. He’s here to save his girl.

Ward Moreno never wanted to become a soldier. But after a foreign nation blew up his hometown, he enlisted in a corporate army, endured agonizing human experiments, and became the most powerful psionic soldier on the planet... only to learn he was fighting for the wrong side.

Now he’s come to the city of his enemies to save his childhood friend from the men who made him into a monster. Yet as he searches the city for her, Ward is drawn into the simmering conflicts of Valor’s Landing. He soon finds himself surrounded by multiple beautiful women who also need his help.

To protect them, Ward must tear apart the corporation that betrayed him and anyone else that gets in his way. But if he can keep these women safe, he may finally find a home... and the love he left behind.

I really enjoyed this book as it was very unique in its use of how the world reacts to psionic energy. Quite compelling

Great new series

Highly enjoyed the overt parallels to FFVII, though it makes me somewhat anxious about the fates of Riley and Terra, though I'm confident they will be fine, considering it's a harem story.

Looking forward to the next entry!

Lot of great things to say about the performance team. This duo was refreshing and their execution good. The story captivated and I even listened once I got to the hotel.

Listened in 1 road trip

I can't get into the story because of the male narrator there is just something about his voice and how he portrays the characters that's off-putting.

Stepped over the line of "heavily inspired" to "I wouldn't be surprised to read this on AO3". The farther I got into the story, the less it seemed "heavily inspired" (the author's words), and more like they just wrote down all the major plot points and characters, then thought "Now, how do I change this just enough to be able to claim it isn't a fanfiction." And somehow still didn't succeed, in my opinion. At first I didn't mind the VERY obvious references and parallels. But by the time I got to the last hour, and they almost seemed to be becoming more blatant, I couldn't even be bothered to finish the duo fight being held by "Don" in the underground arena.

The author also seemed to think that the audience needed reminding every other chapter, that the MC is much more powerful than any other psionic human. Cheap knock offs. He could beat all of them. He's so strong... We got it. The more it is said, the less I believe him.

The female cast felt like they had promise, since they were just rip offs of Jessie, Tifa, and Aerith, were are all decent to great characters in their own rights. But the author drowned out most of their positive attributes by making them all seem to care more about getting in the MC's pants than anything else, and not even a single apparent reservation about sharing. Even when Tifa... I mean, Sydney, was angry at Cloud.... I mean, Zack.... I mean, Ward... the author still went out of their way to explain how the MC could sense she wanted to bone him.

Also, while most of the actual character narration was fine (other than the MC sounding a bit whiny), for some reason Byron Ormond decided to make the non-dialogue parts excruciating to listen to. I don't think I ever noticed any issues with Kat Riley's performance.
