MUTUAL BALL AND CHAIN

Strong-armed into taking a break, Leon kicks back and relaxes with his three boisterous fiancees. When the Roseblades arrive to arrange an inter-house marriage, Leon assumes he'll be offered a fourth bride—Deirdre, his friend and former upperclassman. To Leon's surprise, they want to foist Deirdre's difficult older sister on his brother Nicks! A heartfelt love story begins, but who knows who'll end up holding the leash?

Leon’s little brother Colin and older brother Nyx experiences more growth in this single novel than Leon does in the past 4. Criminally under appreciates Luxion, rarely sees the fault in his own actions, and has 0 ability to reflect on his past to be a better person. This one was a hard listen. I love the series but if the MC doesn’t develop, then why even continue? Of course, I know theres plenty of novels after this one that haven’t gotten audiobooks yet so I’m eagerly awaiting the next one to know if things change and I’m just complaining about an issue that probably has already been fixed in the next volume or the one after.

Leon doesn’t grow as a person

Genuinely wasn’t expecting this big of a tone shift from the last one the last volume made me emotional quite a bit this one just had me dying, laughing the entire time and I loved it

Such a drastic tone shift

…there was so much whining. My biggest complaint remains that Leon is too thick and dense by this point in the story. It really isn’t funny or even amusing anymore. It’s just exhausting but the author is using it as the gag vehicle. Also the reactions he has to disrespect and assumptions is still very passive which one can argue is a character flaw but makes less sense once you realize how much he has endured already and being passive has continued to bite him in the butt. I have zero clue why he continues to put up with the idiot brigade but they were blessedly missing in this one. The story came together near the end and the bonus chapters were also quite amusing. Probably the best part.

I think the VA really brought out the whining in this one…

I remember the first half of this volume but I think I fell asleep during the latter part. So, I just finished volume 3 of the alternate route and it was the introduction of Dot much like this one was for this route. So, it is refreshing to hear the difference between the routes with ultimately the same outcome, Nicks and Dot getting married.

Also the ending of both books emphasized that the idiot brigade are the true problem.

Second time through this One!

With Leon sidelined to get rest after all the events that have come before it's time to focus more on relationships. If P.G. Woodhouse and Shakespeare collaborated on the plot Luxion is the Jeeves to Leon's Wooster, step into a story that is Much Ado About Nothing. Romance is at the heart of this book and this time Leon isn't the target
