They exiled him to the backwaters of space. Now he must rally a failing crew to face an enemy no one saw coming.

Commander Owen Shaw was cleared of all charges in his mutiny trial, but his new assignment aboard the CSS Resolute feels more like punishment than a fresh start. Guarding the backwater Obsidian Sector, the massive battleship is plagued by an undisciplined crew, a drunk engineer, and a complacent captain who'd rather coast than lead.

Shaw is determined to whip the Resolute back into shape, even if it feels like a lost cause.

Because something is going on in the Obsidian Sector: a mysterious explosion at a space station, a colony that's gone silent, and strange reports of an unknown battleship flying without colors.

With the threat of an unknown enemy looming, Shaw must step up, rally the crew, and face a deadly battle that could determine the fate of the Obsidian Sector—and the Confederation itself.

Operation Resolute is a fast-paced military sci-fi novel for fans of Galactica and Voyager. It's the first book in the Obsidian Sector series.

I seriously enjoyed this book!

I've been hopping around from one military space opera to another hoping to find a jam like this.

The story is not overly complex, nor is it anything new to the genre, but it had well written believable characters that are the true focus of the tale, not the starship themselves.

While some parts of the story towards the end felt rushed to the finish, making the story feel shorter than it is, the writing still kept me engaged and interested.

Many similar stories tend to unsuccessfully create a believable foundation of science fiction, opting more into the realm of fantasy and/or random cool sounding gibberish.

But Resolute succeeds by using story ideas and methodologies that have already been used by many sci-fi books. There isn't really anything new in this story, but that doesn't mean it isn't entertaining.

If a story idea still works, no need to makeup a new one.

My thanks to the author for a good adventure.

A gripping start of another Sci-fi adventure!

I enjoyed the character development which was a bit richer than many books in this genre. It’s a fairly familiar “human federation” and good officer punished with some unknown foe. Pretty good and a fun read, but nothing ground breaking.

Character Development

An XO witnesses abuse of a enlisted man and do any thong.... Lost me with that. No proof!? You are the XO good lord.

really?

I often wondered while listening to this audiobook how old the author was who wrote it. It seemed obvious that portions of the story were generated by AI. Mini aspects of the story didn't make any sense at all to anyone who reads or listens to Sci-Fi. We have to reboot the starboard coupler power conduit. When we get off shift we can hang out at the ship's bar. Let me tell you with a toe cable back to the spaceship. These are but a few examples of the peculiarly odd writing. There were caricature interactions that really made no common sense at all. Character development was OK hit and miss. There are a lot of weak plot holes that will leave a listener scratching their head.

just barely ok

Operation Resolute is a fast-paced military sci-fi novel for fans of Galactica and Voyager: I don't think so. This book reads like someone who is intent on doing side quests while the main story is left hanging, Spent 4 chapters developing a character for them only to act out of character. Some chapters drone on about nonsense when other, far more interesting parts are glossed or skipped over. And the two part identification crap is... no.

I like the narrator. He had a good pace, voices and accents were good, but the story itself is very lacking.

Spoiler: You can't tell us about a warship that beats the crap out of his ship, leave it in a position to continue to attack the ship, and threaten to have an overload that is going to destroy the ship, and the XO is worried about proper respects and decorum? Are you kidding me?

I agree with other reviews on here. 1: He is the XO of the ship. Yes he could have done something, 2: This really does seem like it was written by AI and not proofread properly after.

Lacking a human touch
