A Broken Hero

After learning what Jean did to Flum and witnessing what horrors the spirals have wrought on Maria's body, Cyril finally snaps. Fleeing the castle, she wanders the streets until she crosses paths with a child named Mute. This chance encounter puts her story on the fast track toward tragedy as the capital counts down to a chaotic anniversary!

I’ve really come to enjoy this series—especially Milkit’s and Flum’s relationship. It is the heart and soul of the story. Whenever it’s them, even during times of hardship, they carry the plot. However, I have noticed as the volumes progressed, that there’s so much action… like, bounds and bounds of constant fighting. For this volume, it felt like half the length was battles. Never ending fights, hardly any time for respite. That’s my only major complaint about the story’s progress. And the scale of the battle becomes crazier with each passing volume—whether that’s good or bad, is hard to say, but it just feels taxing at times. The constant, arduous battles. Besides that, I still enjoy everything else!

Shoutout to the narrator as always. The volume was a bit of a slog to push through—with all the fighting—but it’s the characters (Flum and Milkit), mystery of the world/Origin, and the future of this story that I will stay for. I just hope future volumes are able to tone down the battles, focus more on the characters (perhaps some slice-of-life), and continue building this world.

Here’s hoping volume 5 is recorded soon! I shall watch the anime in the meantime as it’s now releasing!

Good Story But So Much Action
