Dirty dancing leads to a chance at forever in this sizzling single-parent, found family, small town romance by Jessica Peterson.

As a recently divorced single mom, I have zero interest in flirting with guys while on a rare girls' weekend away with my sisters. I just want to have fun, celebrate my new job, and listen to live music at a honky tonk.

But when I literally stumble into the most gorgeous guy ever on the dance floor, those plans go up in smoke. Growing up on the barrel racing circuit, I've seen my fair share of sexy cowboys. But this particular one is hot as hell: Sawyer's got a mustache, tattoos, and a very filthy mouth.

Needless to say, we end up naked in his swanky hotel room. It's the best sex of my life. And the way Sawyer treats me like a queen? A girl could get used to that kind of adoration.

Good thing he'll only be a one-night stand I can look back on with a smile. I'm rebuilding my life from scratch, and I need to focus on my three-year-old daughter and the dream job I just landed.

Imagine my surprise, then, when I move to Hartsville and run into a tattooed cowboy with an adorable daughter of his own. Now, Sawyer wants more than the occasional playdates between our girls. But the closer we become, the more determined this sexy single dad is to keep me forever.

As much as I'm falling for Sawyer, I'm terrified. I've been down this road before with my ex, and I wonder if I can trust this cowboy. Will he rope the moon for me? Or is my heart destined to be trampled all over again?

Sawyer is a standalone book in the interconnected Lucky River Ranch Series.

Sawyer by Jessica Peterson is a sizzling addition to a series that has me ready to move to a ranch and never leave. Narrated flawlessly by Stephen Dexter and Lila Winters, this story delivers a high-heat, single-parent romance that starts with an epic "body slam" on an Austin dance floor. Ava, a recently divorced single mom enjoying a rare weekend away, has zero interest in flirting until she literally stumbles into Sawyer. Their chemistry is magnetic from the jump—think dirty dancing, a filthy-mouthed cowboy with a mustache and tattoos, and a one-night stand so intense it sticks with them both for months.

The surprise comes later when Ava moves to Hartsville for a new training job, only to discover that her mystery cowboy not only lives there but is also a single dad. Sawyer is the quintessential caretaker, co-owning the family ranch while raising his three-year-old daughter, Ella. Watching him balance the weight of his responsibilities with his genuine, "good to the core" nature makes him an incredibly endearing hero. Ava is equally compelling as she navigates her newfound freedom, determined to rebuild a life for herself and her daughter, June, without being held back by anyone again.

While the first act is heavily driven by intense lust and a "smut-fest" energy, the story eventually settles into a beautiful connection built on vulnerability. Both Sawyer and Ava are honest about their pasts and the exhaustion that comes with single parenthood, a struggle that feels relatable and raw. They eventually find a way to compromise, looking at the bigger picture to create a blended life for themselves and their girls. Seeing little Ella and Junie become "sisters from different misters" is absolutely adorable and adds a cozy, heart-melting layer to the heat.

The brotherly bonds that define the Lucky River Ranch series remain a highlight here. The scenes where the Rivers brothers offer advice or jump in to help with the girls truly showcase the tight-knit community Jessica Peterson has built. Though some readers might find the initial focus on physical attraction a bit over-the-top, Sawyer’s devotion and the way he treats Ava like a queen eventually ground the romance in something much deeper. It’s a fast-paced, "found family" story that has me completely obsessed and counting down the days until Duke’s book.
