A fearsome ancient vampire dies a villain—only to reawaken in a new world with a chance to redeem himself (or, well, close enough?)—in this horror comedy.

Kyler Stragos was once a thousand-year-old vampire, ruling as the Lord of Blood over a realm devastated by the vampire apocalypse. But even the mightiest fall. When he finally meets his end, he's the last vampire lord standing, killed by two heroes, whom he drags with him into death. (At least he has that.)

But death isn't the end. Instead of eternal darkness for this soulless being, Kyler awakens in a strange world, no longer the ancient predator he once was. His new reality is a role-based leveling system in which only the strongest and rarest classes have power. And to reflect his talents, the system has assigned him a nice, rare class: Vampire Lord (of course).

After a thousand years as a ruthless monster, Kyler sees an opportunity to be someone else. This time, in this new body—which just so happens to have last belonged to a murdered student at Vandal Academy—he hopes to walk a different path. What if, instead of becoming a tyrannical ruler, he avenged Kyler Evans's death at the hands of troublesome nobles . . . and maybe even became a hero along the way?

Then again, breaking habits formed over centuries isn't easy. Old instincts die hard, and there's this pesky Spear of Dawn that seems to want Kyler dead (. . . or for him to adopt her, either way). But with a fresh start, a new self, and all the knowledge of his past life, he's ready to carve out his place in this unfamiliar existence—hopefully without dying once more.

The first volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than 100,000 views on Royal Road—now available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook!

Really impressed with the book, narrator, and the author. Main character is an old monster that actually feels like an old monster. He lives by weird ethics, but I appreciate it!

Truly a Good Story

This one hurts because we won't be getting a continuation due to the author's passing. I hope that maybe there might have been story treatments for a second book, but that's just wishful thinking. The story was a wild and crazy ride of action, adventure, and witty humor. I'm glad the book ended neatly, with all the major plot points tied up, especially with what happened to the author. Tim Campbell's performance was just *chef's kiss* good; each character was brought to life vividly. The world-building was a tiny bit cluttered in a few points, but still enjoyable to be immersed in. I love this book so much and would recommend giving it a read/listen. It's such a shame we won't see the adventure continue! RIP J.V. Simms. You were an amazing author!

5 stars would listen again! RIP author.

I'm a sucker for a ancient characters that actually act like they've lived longer than we can comprehend and develop unique quirks and mannerisms. It's why I liked Sylver Seeker and it's why I like this book a super old vampire getting told off by a significantly younger person is bound to get a flippant and dismissive attitude. Kyler comes off like a jerk that doesn't care but his way of acting with people makes sense when he's lived for so long he acts however would bring him enjoyment. I liked the vampire powers and even though he's been basically thrown against fodder in this book maybe the next book will give him the surviving life and death event copulation he was pondering at the beginning of the book

A hidden Gem
