"Occasionally, we all lack the courage to embrace the torture that is love."

Dylan

As a proud physiotherapist fresh out of school, I never imagined falling for a client. Especially not fallen football star, Lake Decker. His over-confident, broody attitude has me biting my tongue and doing whatever it takes to keep this job and support my secrets. Secrets Lake keeps pushing me to unravel.

Lake

I don't fall for women. Women fall for me. I'm Lake Decker, best running back in the league. Former. After a debilitating injury forced me to step back from my budding career, the last thing I thought I'd be doing was drooling at the feet of my stale-looking therapist. But her saucy attitude, strict professionalism, and the occasional shiner have my curiosities piqued.

One thing is certain, we both know how to act tough in the face of adversity, but at our core, we're nothing but a couple of cowards.

From author Jescie Hall comes a compelling and angst-filled love story that will pull at your heartstrings and never let go. Narrated in duet style.

Sweet story. Lake popular football player is incredible and kind. I felt Dylan was a bit overbearing at times. Too much drama. She is a wonderful sister and eventually loosens up. Teddy is amazing as usual. One of my favs. Dylan’s autistic brother Cullen (I think is his name) is precious and adorable. Overall a good story. There was a bit too much description of every thought. Sometimes you just want them to get to the point. I pretty much love all of Jescie Hall books. 📕

A bit long but sweet

WOW!! I am tearing up feeling thankful I picked this book up. Colin is one of the best characters I've ever had the pleasure if being introduced to in a book. Every scene he is in stole my heart. His dynamic with Dylan touched my heart. Lake and Dylan's relationship was just as special. The chemistry was immediate! And the huge bonus of Colin and Lake's bond. It's perfection. Absolute perfection. AND, Colin calling Dylan "DD" instead of "Pickle" now?! BE STILL MY HEART. This book has been on my shelf for maybe a year... I dont know what made me pick it up after all this time, but I am so happy I did. I cant think of a single book that I have read this year that had topped this emotionally (this is book 448, so that's a big deal!).

Top read of my year

Narrated in duet by Teddy Hamilton, Lee Daniels, and Devin Sanclemente—these three are absolutely amazing. Every tone, every emotion… everything flows seamlessly. Pure perfection.

Teddy’s delivery of Lake’s inner thoughts is hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time.
Lee’s performance of Dylan’s wit, emotional and hilarious is flawless.
And Devin is incredible—his character, Colin, plays such a vital role in the story, and he brings him to life beautifully.

The story is messy, funny, deeply real—and so beautifully accurate in its portrayal of autism, grief, and healing. You’ll laugh, cry, and probably fall in love with everyone.

Read this. Hug your people. And bring tissues. Lots of them.

Emotional, Raw, and Unexpectedly Hilarious
