He hates that he wants me.

Stone

Just the sight of Nico ‘Stix’ Jamieson makes me want to hurt something. Between his stupid smiles on that annoyingly handsome face and the constant drumming of anything that makes a sound with those drumsticks of his, I want to throttle him. No one is that happy. I don’t trust it. Even when my hate for him is clear, he throws it back in my face with a smile and wave. And how he loves to push my buttons when he’s feeling especially obnoxious. If I hate him, then why am I obsessed with him?

Stix

Damien ‘Stone’ Sloan hates me. I have no idea what I did to the guy. Despite being gorgeous, he scares me a little. He’s bigger than me, and I have doubts he even knows how to smile. I have to put on a brave face and show how much he doesn’t affect me. Fine, I like to tease him a little too much. I probably have some death wish. But underneath all those growls and scowls is fear and pain. You can see it when his walls come down, even if it’s for a second. Everything in me wants to peek over those walls and see what’s really behind them. I’m invested now. Who are you, Stone?

This is a good story and part of a series which I am looking forward to listing to . Not much angst which I prefer but good coverage of mental health issues and abuse among these young characters . The narrator is fantastic !

Stix (Nico) & Stone (Damien) are two incredible characters. Their story is like a road map through abuse, tragedy, and heartbreak to reach a place of acceptance, happiness, and love.

Courtney has done a fantastic job bringing Stix & Stone to life. The different queer representation in the book is very well done. Also, there are many levels of mental health rep and struggles written with great care and obvious authenticity. Watching these characters move through these is simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming.

Harley Chase's narration is flawlessly spectacular. He gives distinct voice to each character in a way that is easily recognized and filled with emotion. Harley's voice acting is amazing and I look forward to future stories narrated by him.

It’s a beautiful read. Yes, it has its angst moments, but I love how the author focuses on each character’s mental health and shows us how they navigate life. In this first book, we see that Stone has a small conflict with Stix because he sees him as someone who is too carefree, always laughing, and that bothers him. It irritates him that Stix is such a free spirit, living without worries, especially since Stone carries a past that keeps him from enjoying life.
However, Stix’s life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows either. Stix and Stone learn from each other and gradually build a relationship. I love the mutual support they give each other and the sweet moments they share, as well as the found family they create. They realize that family isn’t always about blood, it’s about the people who make you feel safe and loved.

Stix & Stone 💛
