No gods, no kings, no masters; that was Annie's mantra—until she woke up as someone else, somewhere else, a child in a completely new realm.

The strangest thing about Annie's new reality isn't that she's now in the body of a seven-year-old child, the beloved Lillith, feared dead by her family after a particularly nasty bout of pneumonia. It's that she's constantly having to conceal her adult intellect, which is not only advanced but otherworldly.

Sure, being a young woman and a grad student in twenty-first-century America had its challenges, but this life as Lillith presents even tougher obstacles. She must tread carefully to conceal her vast knowledge of biology, math, physics, and . . . being an adult. Because who'd expect a child to understand the complexities of this world, let alone an entirely different one? Certainly not the unassuming family young Lillith was born into.

In this new world she must claim as her own, she's expected to obey her parents, worship a god, and respect a monarchy. But with the memories, experiences, and convictions of both Annie and Lillith combined, she knows she can't—won't—abide by any of it. Until she learns mages play an important role in this society, and her fate as Lillith is suddenly a bit more appealing . . .

Now, teaching herself everything she can about mages—spellcasters and this world's rulers—Lillith has big plans, the kind that could change this realm for the better. But her scheming isn't without risk. As she grows older, she'll need to make crucial decisions about who to enlist to help her, who she can trust, and what she can accomplish with her self-taught magic.

Her plan is bold, brash, and possibly impossible. But Lillith is willing to try, danger be damned.

The first volume of the hit isekai adventure series—with almost a million views on Royal Road—now available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook!

Story isn’t bad just a bit too black and white for my liking. You’re either decent or borderline evil.

Author has it out for anyone with authority or at least the MC does.

This is a great story, well voice acted. Every victory feels triumphant, every loss feel tragic, every second of action feels impactful. The protagonist is smart and likeable, and the plot is compelling.

Brilliant story that doesn't pull punches

So I stumbled across this book by chance and to my elation, it was lots of fun. There are also some seriously cringe worthy aspects of this book but I found it interesting and well thought out.

Wow!

I really enjoyed the premise of this story, especially the magic system—it’s creative and has a lot of potential. The idea of the world pulled me in right away. That said, the execution left me wanting more.

The characters felt a little flat. There isn’t much growth or internal struggle, which is usually what makes Isekai stories so engaging. The villains are evil for the sake of being evil, with no real attempt to humanize them. While I enjoy the cathartic moments of seeing terrible people get what they deserve, I couldn’t help but feel that the lack of moral weight made the world less believable. Would someone from our modern world really kill—even an evil person—without any hesitation or conflict?

There are also moments where the story makes assumptions instead of building motivation. For example, when the gang leader is manipulated by the protagonist’s brother, it just “works” without any build-up or explanation of why the gang leader would think that way. It felt too abrupt and underdeveloped. Similarly, the worldbuilding around gender and power seemed inconsistent—if women can use magic, why aren’t more of them resisting, especially since one of the most powerful early characters is a woman? The logic just doesn’t feel fully fleshed out.

The magic system itself is fascinating, but again, I wanted more detail. If magic circles are supposed to be precious and rare, it seemed too convenient that she just stumbled on them in a bookshop without explanation.

Overall, I love the premise, the concept, and the magic system. But the story feels rushed and underdeveloped, with characters and worldbuilding that don’t quite feel real. I think with more chapters, more buildup, and deeper character development, this could be an amazing series. As it is, I’d call it an enjoyable but frustrating listen—great ideas, but the world falls a little flat.

Awesome Premise. Not flushed out enough IMO.

I definitely enjoyed the book. And its as close to what I have been looking for, for a while now, yet still no where close. The world is to obviously set up to be as oppressive as possible with appropriately dense and malicious characters that feel forced to be the way they are. It's to cut and dry. But if your not looking for a nuanced story and world, it might be just the trashfood fix your looking for.

Unlovable yet compelling MC.
