SUMMARY:
After food and drink Dr Moreau finally explains to Prendick what has been happening on the Island, and what he and Montgomery have been doing here for the past 10 years. It seems that he has been using all of his knowledge of science and physiology to change the shape of animals into humanoids. Then through a course of horrific mental harm to these creatures, he has forced them to talk. What he finds to be his largest problem is that there is an innate bestial quality in these creatures that slowly creeps back in, leaving the creatures eventually nothing but animals in human form. His goal is to remove this factor, and create "New Men."
