Altogether, if these seven universities as they're currently running and funded, they would be $254.9 million in debt by fiscal year 2028. We dissect why this is happening and what can be done. Democratic Gov. Tony Evers put over $300 million in funding in the state budget. Instead, Republicans, who control the Legislature didn't increase funding at all and, in fact, withheld staff raises and $32 million for DEI.
