Much needed reality check

Timothy Snyder shows how his 2016 work directly applies in 2022 and is highly highly relevant. Superb work that should be required reading for all. Thank you.

One of THE Most Important Books/Recordings

I got this audiobook to supplement my reading of the actual book. I didn’t initially realize how much more was included in this production! Although sometimes a bit dense to follow (Ukrainian history is complex!) Mr. Snyder managed to keep my interest to the end. And very glad I listened to the extra as it puts it all in perspective why it’s so important we continue to support Ukraine!

An important book of the 21st century.

I read the original on tyranny few times and thought it was incredibly valuable to any American concerned with democracy. But these additions are informative about a whole region of the earth, and teach us much about the reality of politics and history.

As with all of Mr. Snyder’s work. On Tyranny (Expanded Audio Edition) is time well worth spent, listening. The conversational style of the book also adds a personal touch to the listening experience.

Leave the politics out next time

Biden was in office for almost 2 years when this book was written. The war started under Biden’s watch and is now subject to Biden’s policies. However, there are no comments on things Biden could’ve done differently or better yet many statements about what Trump did wrong.

Grounding and Illuminating. A must.

This discussion of current politics is a careful explication of — and antidote to — the bewildering state of trying to find a way to respond to the current disruption of our social contract. It is both relaxing and terrifying, reassuring and energizing. Well presented, it offers the tools to escape paralysis and engage in the preservation of democracy and all that is a part of this fragile and respectful form of government promotes.

A brilliant analysis and explanation of tyranny in our time and the existential threat it presents to democracy and freedom. The lessons apply not only to Ukraine but also to the US and globally. Dr. Snyder lays bare the bald fascism of the Russian Federation along with specific actions we as individuals can take in resisting fascism such as supporting print news and displaying courage and patriotism.
