A T'au Empire novel

Fresh from his victory on Arkunasha, the young Commander Farsight leads a crusade to reclaim colonies lost to mankind's Imperium. But stiff resistance will test him to his limits and beyond.

Listen to it because: Phil Kelly continues his look at the life of Commander Farsight with his first campaign against the full might of the Imperium and shows how the T'au Empire's technological superiority fares against Imperial grit.

The story: the t'au are a mysterious alien race, diametrically opposed to the Imperium of Man in every possible way - in their mastery of technology, methods of warfare and social structure. Yet in galactic terms they are a young race, and naïve when it comes to the manipulations of Chaos. When promising young Commander Farsight is promoted to lead a crusade across the Damocles Gulf to reclaim the T'au Empire's lost colonies from mankind, the mood is one of optimism. With their mighty fleet, and superior weapons and machines, how can their endeavour possibly fail? However, despite a parade of early successes, Commander Farsight soon faces enemies he wasn't anticipating and finds not only his courage but also his soul tested to the very limit.

Written by Phil Kelly. Narrated by Helen McAlpine and Andrew Wincott.

I feel this is a great show of Farsight and t h e T'au being more than what people think. it shows that they are also flawed and that good intentions pave the way to hell. I recommend reading this and Shadowsun if you want to see that while the rank and file believe in the greater those in charge. see only pawns and prove no faction in warhammer 40k is truly good.

Just as a side note they are not what the means make them out to be they have caste system. it's more like feudal Japan. the ethereals a basically a stand in for the emperor and Farsight was the Shogunate now rebel wanting something more fair and this shows that seeping change.

the insight into Farsight is just amazing

the story itself did have slow parts where it dragged on details not needed. Literally put me to sleep. That said, the characters are fantastic. Worth a read/listen for them alone.

Love the characters, but

As an Ork guy this book was pretty good. Great performance like normal. Story was good. It has your standard combat mixed in with so Tua politics. Not great but if your a Tua guy or has a passing interest then it’s not a bad listen and leaves you wanting to follow the bread crumbs of the next book.

Good for a Tua book

In my opinion, this book does for the Tau what Graham MacNiel’s “Uriel Ventris Saga” did for the Ultramarines: give some much-needed depth to a sometimes controversial faction, and put a fleshed-out character front and center as that faction’s representative. It can feel a bit slow at times, but the story as a whole is good, the narration is very good, and the climax is absolutely excellent. All in all, a solid 4/5!

Almost excellent! Not quite, but almost.
