Sir William Strongstaff is dead and the defender of England and its kings is no longer there to battle the French. His chosen knight, Sir Michael of Weedon is removed as the new king’s bodyguard and he is sent to France where the king’s uncles are trying to finish the job begun by King Henry Vth. From the outset, Sir Michael and his men are beset by treachery and intrigue. The line between ally and enemy appears to be almost invisible. When the Maid of Orleans becomes a threat then Sir Michael and his men become the only hope for the English to hold on to what they have. The struggle is not only for England’s crown but also the French one!

In a novel filled with historical characters like Jeanne d’Arc, the Duke of Bedford and Sir John Fastolf, Sir Michael grows into the knight who will fill the void left by Sir William Strongstaff whose shadow stretches from beyond the grave.©2021 Griff Hosker (P)2021 W. F. Howes Ltd

Strongstaff's story is too good to be true. This is the person you want to be. Again, Griff is exhilarating with his story and Marston brings the character to life. This series grabbed me with Blood on the Crown and I could not stop. Of course, the hero has to die, but you see his influence on others in every story. You are a great man when you have the ability to humble royalty. A must listen or read.

When I started book 1 in this series I was somewhat disappointed. It wasn’t Bernard Cornwall. However after a time the story “got me” and here I am at the last of the series. The prelude to the incidents and some battle scenes are a bit redundant but I didn’t mind that at all. I enjoyed this series.

Wonderful series.

These stories are great and exactly as expected for this type of story. I was shocked by the glaringly large inconsistency in book 8's prologue, giving Lady Eleanor a second death. Such an enormous detail to overlook, especially considering it was talked about up to the very end of book 7 and the weight her death held over the storyline.

Great hero story

I listen to a lot of Griff Hosker. I must be about 30 books in at this point. My favorite series? No - entertaining- yes. Griff has a talent to bring the Middle Ages to life, bring context to the attitudes of monarchs, nobles and warriors alike from centuries ago. There’s no hyperbolic fight of good and evil; just a story of one man’s life mission to protect the kings of England and do what we all want, leave our children something better than we had. Griff also paints what strong military leaders look like combining the best qualities of spiritual, mental and physical to create a quality main character.

Entertaining
