Story
The plane is jam-packed. Every seat is taken. So of course the flight is delayed! Flight attendant Allegra Patel likes her job—she’s generally happy with her life, even if she can’t figure out why she hooks up with a man she barely speaks to—but today is her twenty-eighth birthday. She can think of plenty of things she’d rather be doing than placating a bunch of grumpy passengers.

Story
Kidnappers grabbed Jenna in broad daylight, right in front of her children and their horrified classmates. Her family was issued an insane ransom demand: $25 million in cash and jewels, payable by the end of the school day, otherwise they’ll never see her again. As Jenna’s mother scrambles to gather the money, detectives Mo Butler and George Ortega follow the trail of the kidnappers, which will lead them through a sordid landscape of jealous lovers, broken dreamers, and twisted schemers. But every second counts, and there’s one thing Jenna Wade doesn’t have: very much time.

Story
For the last 100,000 years, we Sapiens have accumulated enormous power. But despite all our discoveries, inventions, and conquests, we now find ourselves in an existential crisis. The world is on the verge of ecological collapse. Misinformation abounds. And we are rushing headlong into the age of AI—a new information network that threatens to annihilate us. For all that we have accomplished, why are we so self-destructive? Nexus looks through the long lens of human history to consider how the flow of information has shaped us, and our world.

Addicted to Audicted
This is just one of the generous benefits for being an Audible member. Each of the Audicted episodes presents me with something to consider. It even helped me find my next great "Read"!

Good Reviews - Needs written back-up
Would you listen to Ep. 1: Best Audiobooks of 2017 (Audicted) again? Why?
Yes!
What about the narrator’s performance did you like?
Enjoyed the banter, but made it difficult to follow sometimes.
Any additional comments?
I listen to Audible either in the car, or while I am working, including this series. It would be very beneficial to me if each edition had an accompanying pdf with links to the books discussed in that edition.

Episode 1
I had low expectations for this series but it’s actually pretty good! I’m always happy to hear about new book recommendations because I listen to a lot of audio books. It’s nice that this gives recommendations of books to listen to from the people of audible. I’m going to listen to a couple of the books they recommended.

Audible podcast: I love it!
This is an Audible podcast. Perfect length for a commute at around 34 minutes. In this episode, the Editors recap which audiobooks made the cut for Audible's Best of 2017 list, and they briefly discussed how they came up with those titles.
This was a super fun listen for me. These Editors have infectious enthusiasm for each of the audiobooks they discussed, and that is exactly what I wanted to hear. They actually made me reconsider listening to one or two audiobooks that weren't on my radar before now plus I now plan to re-listen to one in my own library that I didn't particularly enjoy the first time because of how much they loved it. I'm impressed!
They do mention quite a few audiobooks during the podcast, so if we want to go back and get a list of what was discussed during each episode, that information has been made available here: https://www.audible.com/ep/Audicted
After I finished this first episode, I subscribed to Audicted so each episode will be delivered directly to my library. Loved this one and highly recommend it to people who just generally love audiobooks as much as I do.

Sufficient For Its Intended Purpose
Story: 3-Stars
************
I appreciated the premise of a 'best of' list. Given the enormous variety of content made available by Audible, any sort of filtering mechanism to aid in directing me to superior titles is appreciated. The best audiobooks of 2017 are presented here by genre. I can appreciate the difficulty of determining this list!
I would have appreciated more focus in the broadcast. Several other books are mentioned and discussed that are not on the list, leading to a bit of confusion. While I am sure they are all worthy titles, a more in-depth discussion of the winners would have been more valuable to me.
Performance: 2-Stars
*******************
These are Audible editors/employees - not necessarily professional voice actors - producing a podcast-like recording. Speaker diction is a problem at several points, particularly with book title and author names (the primary information I was looking to get from the episode). Frequently, I had to rewind the episode and listen closely in order to puzzle out what was being said. Thank you for the addition of the books and authors to the online 'Publisher's Summary' for the episode.

Very hard to follow
I thought this would be a great thing to use to find new books and authors. It didn’t quite work for me. The conversations about the books and authors seem to digress to the point where it is difficult to remember what is being discussed. It’s like listening to a sommelier describe a wine. I really like wine but I don’t want to learn a new vocabulary just to talk about them.
For me there are certain things that are still better when read. Taking notes while listening to an audio performance sort of defeats the purpose. I’ll just continue to cut and paste the stuff I think I’d like from the newsletters.
