Definitely worth the time!

While some references were comically outdated, the concepts seem remarkably sound. This was a sensible, realistic, and practical look at how to make people aware of your product or service. It might take some extra effort on the listener's part to understand this - taking notes or printing out chapter headings. While I don't know that it could be helped, the reading cadence was awkward at times. The subject seems a tough one to absorb totally in this way.

incredible but outdated

So much poignant knowledge; but, definitely outdated. The outdated part is kind of cool though, because it makes predictions about the future of businesses and some of them turned out to be correct but some very incorrect. Good stuff

easy to follow

great information for people who either just launched a product/service or are looking to do so. It's easy to listen to and the reader keeps a great pace.

Outdated examples but sound wisdom

I thought the outdated examples would be easy to overlook, but they are laughably distracting. The wisdom is sound, and I would suggest it to anyone wanting Marketing 101. Take the examples with a grain of salt

Some Hidden Gems but Mostly Fundamentals About Branding

This quick read is mostly a branding guide, not really a marketing book at all. It talks mostly about slogans and positioning yourself as a market leader or in relation to a market leader. It is a very "global" perspective that uses Coke vs Pepsi and other dated examples such as "IBM vs Toshiba" as a primary examples of how they have changed there marketing massages over the years to compete for different market share.

It does NOT tell you how to effectively market in a practical sense, what tools are most effective for specific industries, and what good ROI looks like as a comprehensive marketing guide would tell you.

Even though these are "immutable" laws that are supposed to pass the test of time I would say that it does feel a bit dated and does not speak at all to how the Internet has changed things. Which it undeniably has. The narrator does not help it feel any less dated, a youthful voice would've been better.

It does give some great stuff on positioning yourself in a category that I will use. It does get you thinking bigger about your smaller business and the message a customer is receiving from your marketing message. Otherwise, I would say it's very fundamental and a good read for an entrepreneur just starting out.

Golden contents

As a mid-20’s novice marketer, I found a lot of extremely valuable content. I’m working in a very saturated industry and this book turned feelings of despair into an actionable plan.

I do have to say their commentary was funny on things they didn’t think would take off well when what they were critiquing is now part of everyday life (e.g. video phones/FaceTime), but everything was valuable!
