A surprise single dad, small town romantic suspense…

I’m the last guy on the planet who should be a dad. My life is chaos. My sins written dark and deep.
So, imagine my surprise when my doorbell rings and I open it to find the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen standing on the other side.
And she’s holding the hand of a little girl who looks just like me.

Emery tells me her sister, the child’s mother, is dead.
I feel like dirt since she’s a woman I can hardly remember, and it’s no wonder Emery doesn’t trust that I’m worthy of caring for her niece.
But I can’t turn my back, and I insist on raising Maci.
So, we strike a deal—she’ll stay with me for one month to ensure the little girl is safe.

Emery tries to hate me for who I am, but neither of us can resist the attraction that blazes between us.
One brush of her hand, and she has me on my knees.
One kiss, and I’m falling fast.
Soon, we find ourselves tangled in my sheets.

But when it’s discovered her sister’s death wasn’t accidental, the secret life I’ve been living collides with the past Emery has tried to keep hidden.
And when the fiends come back to finish the job they started, I’m in a race against time to save the two people who I’ve come to love most…

Once again, A.L. Jackson blows me away! This series is gripping, emotional and overall un-put-downable! Kane gets quite a shock when he finds out he has a daughter. And the woman bringing her, Emery, helps in turning his world upside down. Two new people that he becomes devoted to, shares his heart & love. And fierce protection. And having Jason Clark as Kane telling me his story…😍😍😍 perfection! Erin Mallonalso does an awesome job as Emery. I so love this series!!

“Delirium. It’s what it had to be. Hoisting me higher, Kane grabbed onto my other leg and wrapped that around his waist, too. My feet were no longer on solid ground. I guessed they hadn’t been since I’d met him.”

Am I surprised that I like this book? Absolutely not. It’s a small town, single dad, morally gray hero, and forbidden romance of course I liked it!

I’ve said this about 1,000,001 times but I’ll say it again. I adore this authors writing. It flows beautifully and is so lyrical, I could read her writing all day everyday. This story was such a beautiful one. So emotional and filled with so much love. You can see from the very beginning how much Emery and Kane grow throughout the entire book. Not just as a couple but individually as well. They both have been through some really traumatic things. So, being able to go through all that, and love not only oneself, but to love each other as well as Maci! All three of them are fierce and loyal and love each other so much it just radiates off the pages. I had the pleasure of listening to this on audio and as always, Jason Clark and Erin Mallon did a phenomenal job bringing these characters to life. They have such great voices and were really perfect for these two characters.

I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a heartfelt emotional story about a single bad, one strong woman, and the cutest little girl that will steal your heart in a second.

What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 Erin Mallon is a dual narration queen—so sensual and hot, changing voices so well to bring us all the emotions. She brings all the different feels as Emery: strong, sassy, scared, sensual.
🤩 Jason Clarke is a perfect Kane with such big feelings coming through in his gruff voice. He had me tingling in chapter 36. I love me a hot, attentive, protector.
🤩 I’m pretty sure this series is making me realize I adore morally grey MCs, even the unalivers (say what?!), especially if they are fighting the good fight of protecting innocent women and children from horrible abusers. Sovereign Sanctum has my whole heart.
🤩 These two are so hot, vulnerable, and intimate at the same time. Deliciously detailed steam!
🤩 The suspense, the plot twist, ugh, it’s all so captivating with all the extra feels.
🤩 That scene with Kane & his mom was harrrrrrd to listen to but so well written. Check the trigger warnings.

What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 I think this series along with Navessa Allen have made me brave to try Butcher & Blackbird (The Ruinous Love Trilogy).

These two are hot, vulnerable, and intimate!!!

Another masterpiece from AL Jackson!
What a powerful and riveting story to help heal the members of the Sovereign Sanctum. Kane was brutal, pain and anger that sat on his sleeve. But the moment he saw Emery from across the bar, he felt the instant connection that made it impossible to look away from the blonde bombshell. Recognizing something in Kane, Emery took advantage of the connection and as an escape from her drowning sorrow, she let go of all her inhibitions and surrendered to all that Kane made her feel. After their one night together, reality came slamming back into them and Emery ran back to her situation, where she was supposed to give up her niece to her father, the last piece of her late sister.
When she finds out exactly who Macy's father is, her choices from the night before come crashing into her and she has to grapple with what she needs to do vs what she wants to do - to stay or to run.
Kane's world is turned upside down with Emery and Macy entering the picture and it forces him to face his demons and make the changes in himself necessary to be worthy of Macy. He makes it his mission to convince Emery that her future is in Moonlit Ridge, loving and watching over Macy while allowing him to love and watch over both of them - his girls. He sees the her pain boiling over suffocating her and makes it his mission to be her rock and to burden that pain and lessen her loan so her spirit can start to heal. They slowly widdle away at each other's armor and the powerful love that sweeps over them is one that both of them more than deserve after everything they've been through.
The twists and turns in this one were not ones I saw coming in the slightest and the last part of this book had me on the edge of my seat, completely enthralled by how these two would come out in the end. A brutally beautiful story and a testament to the idea that love can conquer all.
Erin and Jason were fantastic on this title. Two of my absolute favorites on one title is always a win in my book! I haven't listened to a gruff, brutal Jason in a while and it was just what I needed! Erin is phenomenal in every role she plays and this was no different.

What a masterpiece!

⭐4.5/5

As always, A.L. Jackson left me with my jaw on the floor with her unexpected plot twists. I wasn’t prepared for how intricately the stories would intertwine in this book, and I thoroughly enjoyed how everything came together in the end.

Jason Clarke and Erin Mallon did a fantastic job bringing Kane and Emery to life. I’ll admit, it took me a moment to adjust to Jason’s voice—it was much gruffer than I had imagined for Kane. But he quickly won me over. He delivered Kane’s emotions so powerfully—his shock upon discovering he had a daughter, the depth of love he was ready to give her, his intense desire for Emery, and his fear when confronting her past. His performance was raw and heartfelt.

Erin Mallon was flawless as Emery. She perfectly captured the air of mystery surrounding her character. I had a feeling something terrible had happened to Emery, but when the truth was finally revealed, I was absolutely stunned. I needed a moment to process it because—OMG—I did not see that coming.

The world of Sovereign Sanctum continues to amaze me, and Kane was no exception. Yes, he fell hard for Emery, but what truly stood out was how he immediately stepped up when he found out he had a daughter. He couldn't stay away and instantly wanted to give her the life she deserved. And Macy—she was such a sweetheart. I loved how everyone welcomed her with open arms and how she found a new, loving family.

The chemistry between Emery and Kane was electric from the very beginning. They shared a passionate night without even knowing each other’s names, but fate clearly had bigger plans—binding their lives together in ways neither of them could have imagined.

I absolutely love this series and highly recommend both reading and listening to the books. They’re captivating, emotionally rich, and full of twists that will keep you hooked until the very last page.

Kane & Emery were amazing!

At the Edge of Surrender keeps that same gritty feeling as this Moonlit Ridge series continues. I love a surprise child trope but this one has a twist since it is not Maci’s mom who shows up in this small town with her but it is her aunt. Emery has been tasked with taking care of her sweet niece after the death of her twin sister Emily. The biggest surprise is for Kane when he finds out he is the father of the sweet, sassy four year old Maci. Emery and Kane have an immediate connection but it is their past connection that make the biggest impact for them both.
Kane is part of Sovereign Sanctum and carry’s that morally grey persona but it is Emery that has him rethinking his bachelor life when he falls hard and fast for not only Emery but her beautifully sweet niece Maci who is also his daughter.
This story will keep you riveted to the edge of your seat as secrets are revealed and the connection from past to present all comes to life.
I also had the added benefit of listening to the audio version of this book and the narrators did an amazing job that only added to my enjoyment of this story.

Excellent addition to this series!

Kane and Emmy’s story in Edge of Surrender is intense, emotional, and beautifully written. Their connection is undeniable—built on pain, passion, and a deep need to protect what matters most. Maci, adds a touching and entertaining layer to the story with her contagious personality. Kane’s fierce devotion to both Emmy and Maci is heart-melting, and watching them form a fragile but powerful family is truly moving.

So many layers to this intense love story!

Heading back to Moonlit Ridge & this time Kane's ridin' on the back of the bike! If you love small-town romantic suspense with morally grey MC's that have hearts of gold, then this is for you! These Do-Gooders & their secret society give you all the twists & turns you want & Kane's story is no exception. The deep bond & brotherhood that these men have for each other & those they love is great!

When Emery blows into town, she literally rocks Kane's world but ghosts & memories from her past still haunt her. Kane's life is also turned upside down when he learns of the news that he's got a daughter, Maci, he never knew about. Both of these characters have secrets but there's an undeniable connection between them & together they start to walk through the murky waters of life together.

There are lots of secrets & plot drops in this one that happen towards the end of the story but one thing remains the same, these men are as protective as they come. Guard dogs ready to pounce at a moments notice. Kane is one of THE most protective. He's determined to help Emery let go of her past & live free. I really loved watching her character learn to let go of her insecurities, self-doubt and shame over her past.

Despite some of the heavier subject matters, this is a story about redemption & healing. With Kane's help, Emery is able to reclaim her life & sexuality after the horrible things that she experienced. Kane is fighting his own demons but these two build a relationship of love & trust in one another all while creating a safe space for Kane's little girl to be happy & thrive. Kane refuses to let their pasts determine their future together.

The found family in AL's series has always been one of the highlights for me. These men & women are bonded for life & the love & protection they have for each other gets me all up in my feels at times.

🎧Let's talk audio: There honestly isn't a better person to voice Kane than Jason Clarke. He's so perfect at narrating a protective & morally grey man and I ADORED Kane. His performance was outstanding as he brought all the emotion & tension filled scenes to life. He's gruff but tender and you just are swept away in the deep & authentic performance he gives in this one. Erin voiced Emery and these two narrators continue to give amazing performances with every book they put out. Their work is impeccable!

This gritty & suspense filled series has been fantastic & I can't wait to see what happens next. AL's writing is uniquely poetic & she continues to delivers characters you absolutely fall in love with.

Thanks to AL Jackson and Valentine PR for a copy of the ALC. All thoughts are my own.

Wonderful & unique found family that DELIVERS!

At the Edge of Surrender is another stellar novel in the Moonlit Ridge series. I absolutely loved Kane and Emery. I loved her sassy protectiveness and how Kane was all in right from the start and got the surprise of his life when she showed up on his doorstep after he expected it to be just a one night stand. Emery came with all kinds of baggage from her childhood trauma and while it took Kane a long time to get all of that out in the open, I loved the way that he was able to heal her wounds. Of course Kane comes with his own trauma and I really enjoyed the way that he works through it is by helping other people going through the same things he and his mother did. That protectiveness that he shows to others just made Kane even better in my opinion.

While shocked to find out that he has a daughter, Kane immediately stepped right into the father role and I could not get enough of how perfect he was as Maci's dad. Kind, sweet, caring, protective and giving his all to help her transition be as easy as possible. There is so much of Maci in this story as well and you can't help but absolutely fall in love with her and her sweet nature. She made me smile so much and I absolutely loved her.

The development of the relationship between Kane and Emery was lovely. They both love Maci and were able to connect not only on their attraction to each other, but also on their desire to protect Maci. I honestly loved these two together. Especially when we got the snippet of connection toward the end. It really brought the whole story full circle and made me smile, but also broke my heart for their younger selves and the pain they had been through.

On audio, Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke gave a phenomenal performance. The way that they both portrayed the traumatic and then redeeming parts of the story really added to the listening experience.
