Excellent and Over Far Too Soon

I loved AYAD as a kid. I was there EVERY Saturday night for SNICK.

I remember with GREAT fondness listening to the stories of Sardo (NO Mister, accent on the "DOH"). The kid getting trapped in the pinball machine-arcade was right up my proverbial alley.

With the invention of streaming, I was able to introduce the show to my kids, who also loved it. They were young enough at the time that they even got a little freaked out and we had to go on hiatus, but now, at ten, they're back in again.

So when I found this podcast, I immediately downloaded it. We listened to it one rainy day on a short road trip to go to (of all things) a retro video game festival.

Well, we enjoyed it quite a bit. The season was short and took us the length of a drive from Salem, OR to Eugene, OR. The stories were -wildly- varied, from creepy supernatural to just...weird and off-putting. But the performances, though a bit over-the-top at times, were fitting in with the whole aesthetic of teens/pre-teens trying to scare each other with stories. The framing bit, of the kid doing his own podcast with his brother interfering, helped break a lot of the "oh my god, this is actually happening and is scary" potential, which made it a possible for even younger listeners to enjoy.

The stories themselves were fun. Imaginative, if a little derivative, but pretty much what you'd expect from the franchise if you watched as a kid, like I did. One genuinely creeped me out, one had an incredibly ridiculous ending...which became amazing after the narrator decided to present an entirely different ending! That made me and my kids laugh at how it went from shocking to hilarious. The final episode of the season was disturbing in all the right ways, and really fits the "gore-love" that my kids are in, without being actually too graphic.

All in all, an incredible series and I really hope another one is produced and distributed. Well worth the listen!

Great!

A true throwback to the original series that captures the spirit of the show while balancing the perfect amount of 90’s cheese and light horror. Bring on Season Two.

The best kind of nostalgia!

The stories may be a little predictable and corny for adults, but I LOVED AYAotD as a kid. my 6year old likes watching spooky videos with me so it's nice to have this to share with him since it's basically profanity free
