Publisher's summary

In this electric and provocative debut novel, Amber Tamblyn blends genres of poetry, prose, and elements of suspense to give shape to the shocking narratives of victims of sexual violence, mapping the destructive ways in which our society perpetuates rape culture, brilliantly brought to life through a multi-voice performance featuring Glenn Davis, Ben Foster, Marc Maron, Jason Ritter, John Roberts, Russ Tamblyn, Amber Tamblyn, January Lavoy, Phoebe Strole, Robin Miles, Thérèse Plummer, Dan Bittner, James Fouhey, and Michael Crouch.

A violent serial rapist is on the loose, who goes by the name Maude. She hunts for men at bars, Online, at home - the place doesn’t matter, neither does the man. Her victims then must live the aftermath of their assault in the form of doubt from the police, feelings of shame, alienation from their friends and family, and the haunting of a horrible woman who becomes the phantom on which society projects its greatest fears, fascinations, and even misogyny. All the while the police are without leads and the media hound the victims, publicly dissecting the details of their attack.

What is extraordinary is how as years pass these men learn to heal, by banding together and finding a space to raise their voices. Told in alternating viewpoints signature to each voice and experience of the victim, this audiobook crackles with emotion, ranging from horror to breathtaking empathy.

As bold as it is timely, Any Man paints a searing portrait of survival and is a tribute to those who have lived through the nightmare of sexual assault.

An amazing story

This takes a look at rape culture as it is now. What if men were being sexually assaulted? Would the world change the way they treated survivors, or would the treatment continue down the path it has always been on; will we ever believe survivors?

A thought provoking and disturbing story

Exactly what society needs today! It's about time we start resensitizing our culture about abuse, violence and sexual assault no matter who the victims are. Ultimately we are all victims until we change the narrative! Great work Amber Tamblyn!

I think I would enjoy in written format more

I struggled a bit listening to the formatting of this story. It’s difficult subject matter but the segmentation as well as the consistent repeating of certain phrases for emphasis and use of lists was a little frustrating. The overall story was interesting, it was a little hard to get attached to the characters with the first person switching but I think that was purposeful. Overall I enjoyed the story but I think I would like it more in a written format.

Grueling introspective look from a female inspired male gaze

This book will pull tears from your eyes and send pangs of pain into your heart. It’s emotion packed, modern day prose is refreshing and connective to our current social media drench society in on how the masses view victimhood and victim blaming when the victim is a man, made venerable as a woman.

Hard to follow at times but so well performed and such a poignant message. Totally stoked to read anything by “Dr. Masters”! 🖤

Brilliant yet disturbing.

I only discovered this book because of the author’s interview on WTF podcast. So to you mark, thanks for booking Amber and sharing with the world.

I can’t say the book was entertaining—because that would make light of such a deeply troubling topic. It was captivating, though. I was captive. The prose was poetic yet accessible. It was evocative and provocative. It had me angry and sad and at times left with a sense of hopelessness. At times it was as if we were looking at our actual society—because we were. This book is highly recommended by myself.

Great narration!

Great narration. I probably wouldn’t have kept reading the physical book…but listening to it was great. The narrators kept me interested and really brought the story to life

must listen!

Read trigger warnings and proceed anyway. Profoundly accurate look at victimized victims of SA. But with the twist of men as the victims.
