James A. Warren's battle-driven history shows how this elite culture has produced the best warriors in the country, through six decades, several open wars, and many smaller interventions. From their heroic performance in the Pacific War, against Japanese troops on god-forsaken islands, to their "tip-of-the-lance" leadership in key operations in the two Gulf Wars, the Marines have proven again and again that elite men with elite training are worth entire armies.

This is the first modern history of the Marines in a generation and the first to show how battlefield performance has driven the Marines from the Cold War to the war on terror.

Great to get details of battles discussed in that time frame. As a former enlisted Marine I enjoyed the information behind the formation of the modern Marine Corps. Great on how we came to be.

Great Mid 20th Century to 2002 history of the U.S. Marines. The reader learns about how the marines had to adapt as an entire Corps to stay on tip of their game and to remain an elite military ready force for America.

A sweeping history of the formation and development of the United States Marines. Key engagement details are included with action from WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam, and the Middle East wars. This audiobook is phenomenal in it's coverage of the Corps and it's tradition's, training, and accomplishments. It also gives a hard look at its failures, and how the Corps has learned from them and moved forward to be a better fighting unit.

Although it covers a large amount of time, it truly is a 30,000 ft look down as it covers the highlights of Corps and not the everyday minutia that would have slowed the book down.

A direct read/synopsis of The Corps.
