Fantastic mix

This whole series is defined by exceptional imagery, an exceptional range of characters, a realistic background, and a precise array of tricks and misdirections to keep you hooked from page 1 book one to hours and hours later

I wish I could forget about this trilogy so that I could find it again and listen from scratch!!

A very satisfactory conclusion.

Wraps it all up well. The usual gallows humour and explosive action balanced with memorable characters. Another excellent trilogy.

Jonas Murdoch helps lead the good folk of Silverton. Getting out of Silverton slightly ahead of the motorcycle gang that took over the town. He devised The Legion of Freedom, and with his one hundred cohorts and a slick tongue was busy taking over towns, building an empire. It’s good to be king. Jodi Sarjanan and Ellie Jabbarah navigating the inland waterways of California. Damo and Carl join them, helping Maxi, Pascal, and Beatrice get home to Canada. James O’Donnell and his friends Michelle, Rick, and Melissa traveling cross-country. Rick and Nome were still a team. Nome is my favorite character. James and friends meet up with Damo, Carl, Jodi, and Ellie in the town of Batham where they encountered religious zealot Preacher and his followers. Religious fanatics seem to appear regularly in this genre. James and crew, including Damo and crew, continued heading towards James’ parent’s ranch outside Livingston Montana. Livingston had been destroyed by The Legion. Everyone was welcomed at the O’Donnel’s ranch. Damo’s home was still many miles to the north in Canada, where he and his friends would bring the children home. A pig roast and an open invitation celebrated James’ homecoming. Everyone was happy, in a state of make-believe, and felt safe for the first time in a long time. Michelle set about doing her professional risk assessment. Back in the town of Three Forks, which The Legion had taken over before Livingston, all hell was breaking loose. Michelle, Rick, and a few from O’Donnel’s ranch went to Three Forks to negotiate a settlement but were finding out much more than they had imagined. What was taking place in Three Forks? Hold on to your seat!

the ending will leave you screaming!

The third book just throws the plot out the window. you know from the beginning almost who will get killed and who will live, but what happens to the world? to the government.

Great series

Enjoyed all three books in the series. Author thoroughly entwined the lives and stories of each character. Each character had flaws, bouts of heroism, weakness and strength when needed. Highly recommend

Great story!

This 3rd book in this series had me rolling! the presenter did ànd outstanding job for each character. I must say my favorite was Damo.
I use audio books while I'm driving. my car is my office. I almost had to pull over a few times. I was not at all ready for an apocalyptic series that had humor. Humor that seemed realistic. The author even made his story more realistic because of using people's emotions. However, the ending I felt was disgraceful. The serious was slow. It took its time, establishing the time-line and each character. This last book brought their backgrounds into focus and why they are who theyvare now. The end came on beyond extremely fast. It left holes on the story. It was almost as if the author became bored or uninspired and didn't know how to continue on. That was truly a dissappoint.

I had high hopes!

Story started out strong with some original ideas and interesting characters. The author really developed some characters , while just using stereotypes for others (usually evident by his bias). Sadly this took a 5 star story to 3 star. If there had been only a few biases, it would not be an issue. However it is used regularly throughout. Which felt lazy and lacking. Several times I almost stopped listening but really fell in love with the story line and a handful of main characters (Mel, Rick, Ellie and Michelle).

Narration was well done. The voice of each character was unique and easily distinguished from each other.

The struggle finally came together for me

in books 1 and 2, I struggled with sooooo many characters spread all over the place. Keeping with the story, it actually finally came together and ended with a solid new fan!

The author chose poorly in my opinion. Can't always be a happy ending, but it could've been much better.

First: Rupert Degas - outstanding performance. Superb character voices and accents.
Second: story and plotlines - also outstanding
- some real surprising plot twists and some moments of pure comedy genius.
Third - the ending was perfect

Saw the title on the Audible plus catalogue, thought it looks interesting,so I gave it a shot.

initially, I thought here we go, another end of the world American survivalist story.

it is. However, its really fast paced, engaging and well narrated. I was hooked in the first 10 minutes! Definitely worth downloading

Grand Finale indeed ...

I listened to all three books over a few days and genuinely found them to be a journey of love, war, madness, greed, passion and friendship.
I really engaged by the characters
and plotline. I actually shed tears at the end ...
The narrator is superb. I LOVE RC Bray as a narrator, and I put this guy up there with him.

Intelligent apocryphal tails

Slow burning story but the pace builds good throughout the three books and it’s finally.. original and realistic situations and characters reactions to there situations..

A good story made great by a talented narrator that really brought the characters and story to life

Another awesome trilogy

Mark Birmingham has nailed it again, engaging characters, worryingly believable premise for the core story and a great mix of humour, and action. Really enjoyed Rupert Degas narrating also. More soon please!

Well worth a listen

Kept me entertained for a while with a different take on the apocalypse without being too far fetched

This is closest to how it will go down, if it does.

Of all apocalyptic fiction, this is one of the very few where all the people don’t conveniently disappear or turn into zombies, making it one of the most realistic. Of course they take a few liberties for the sake of the story arc, but whatever.

Great finale

Hard to believe this trilogy was an audible freebie as I’ve paid for books that are nowhere near as good. A very realistic portrayal as to how things would probably go wrong I. Such a situation. One thing I particularly liked was the way the language and vocabulary as a whole became more corse as the decent progressed. A subtle point but it brought an extra dimension and energy to the book. Great narration too.

Brilliant trilogy.

I don’t normally read this kind of book. But I can honestly say it was brilliant. Great characters. Great storyline. Superbly put together. I was totally engrossed from the beginning of book 1 to the last sentence of book 3.

Great ending for the saga

If you ignore some not-so-subtle PC BS, it’s a great story. The characters are built very well and the story reaches suspension of disbelief easily.

Narration is quite good, maybe even better than the previous books.
