In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison. But while both groups are suspended, a global cataclysm devastates most of the Earth, and their cryosleep is extended by more than 500 years.

This is a great story and a great performance. I usually avoid books with mixed reviews. I picked this one just to have the pleasure of listening to Brendan Frasier. Zero regrets Al Lee around.

Glad I didn't read the reviews

Amazing!

Having recently been reading, well listening to the Bobiverse books, I was struck by the very basic similar premise of a cryogenically frozen person being revived into an virtual reality/Quantum Computer. But the similarities end there. Both the Bobiverse and this this book owe the concept to Larry Niven's "A World Out Of Time" a book I first read almost 50 years ago.

I won't get into story or plot details as I hate giving spoilers away and others can write a better synopsis that I can.

I will say that I throughly enjoyed the book. the performances by Luke Kirby and Brendan Frasier were both great. as were the other voice actors.

The story was good and done in an interview fashion where you never hear the interviewer or their questions, but allows for multiple character point of views of the same events.

I do hope there's a sequel to this as I'd like to know what happened to the characters.

Another winner from Robert J, Sawyer

Robert J. Sawyer is one of the epic SF writers of our time, and he delivers again here. The story is gripping from the opening lines - RJS’ writing draws you effortlessly into his world, and Audible did an excellent job with the casting and production. One of my favorite books of the year!!

Excellent writing, excellent story, excellent production and performance!!!

Wow! This is a story for science fiction fans, people concerned with the future of the planet, and people who care about people.

Only closed-minded bigots won't like this story.

Even better than the TV ads with Brendan Fraser!!!

I loved both the storyline and performance. I couldn't stop listening and will most likely listen to it again in the near future.

Engaging!

I loved the thoughtfulness of the story, including the science, sociology, politics, and all the myriad other aspects that keep you thinking. Sawyer is really a master storyteller who obviously spends a good deal of time researching before writing. The performance reminds me of radio plays that I listened to many years ago. The music and background sounds add a very rich element and all the different voices create clear and interesting characters. Somehow, Sawyer has mastered the ability to leave out the boring parts and keep you entertained every step of this rather expansive journey. Highly recommended!

I so thoroughly enjoyed this work

I really enjoyed this. I’ll be honest, I chose to listen to this one specifically because Brendan Fraser was on the cover and because it was included with my membership. I wasn’t disappointed. I had a 2.5 hour drive to see my brother on a Saturday and then 2.5 hours drive back home later that day so I was looking for something to keep me engaged for that 5 hours on the road. This did the trick and I found myself wishing it wasn’t over.

Engaging, funny fiction
