Story
Charlotte McBee knows she’s in for a challenge when she accepts a job as midwife for a dragon and a phoenix shifter. Being a fairy herself, it isn’t the supernatural world that scares her. It’s the thought of delivering a giant metal dragon’s egg, which has her gritting her teeth in pain for poor Jillian, the anxious mother-to-be. While preparing for the big event, a handsome town resident catches her eye. Leonard is kind, charming, and a little bit mysterious. He’s also suffering from a highly unusual condition brought on by an ancient fairy curse.

Can't help it, I just love this series
This series is fun and satisfying and filled with heart warming moments where truly weird people/werekin are family and kind to each other, whether they are birth family or the even better, chosen family. the narration is delightful, there are dragons, all kinds of bizarre were-shifters; there's very strange and wonderous types of magical gifts - it's just light and fun. I'm 72 years old, I've read all kinds of sci-fi/fantasy, and I like authors who can instill hope, humor and human kindness into their books, and even better, good humored sass and a touch of snark. If you need something less light-hearted, but still written with a bit of tongue in cheek, but more plotting, more interstellar, than I strongly urge you to give Bujold's Vorkosigan series a try -- stunning, and a good 13 books long, none with cliffhangers, and each a stand-alone. But, if you're looking for easy, breezy and pleasantly weird, this series is great.

Mystic Bayou Magic
I had never heard of Molly Harper and Shifter stories were definitely not my type of genre, Until...I got my email from Audible “Editors Picks””Always Be My Banshee” was one of the picks. I was looking for something fresh to keep me sane during Quarantine. I read the description of the series and started in order - fortunately they were In Audible Escape. All Mystic Bayou books were fantastic. The author has a great imagination, throws in humor , romance, mystery and a dash of quirky town supernaturals and voilà happy ears .
The narrators are amazing (my first time listening to them) new favorites. I would give this series all the stars but the rating system allows only 5.
You will not be disappointed with this series at all. One of the great things is you don’t have to read them in order or all of them as they are stand alone novels in themselves.
Thank you Holly Harper for helping me through this difficult time .

Harper continues to wow
Molly Harper does it again. I don’t know how, but she has me laughing out loud while walking the dog with every single books she writes. Humor in books is hard! Harper does it with natural ease and perfect timing. The worlds she builds are filled with so much more than romantic love promised by the romance premise. She builds communities full of characters that you want to invite over for a barbecue and hope will lick your forehead so you can be adopted too. I wish I could hang out in mystic bayou with the team.
Also, Amanda Ronconi and Jonathan Davis knock it out of the park with their performances.

I devoured this audio
This time we have two newcomers arriving in Mystic Bayou and both are unusual. Brendan O’Connor, is a rare male banshee and Cordelia Canton is a touch-psychic. They’ve been brought here by the league to decipher the object found near the rift that is changing the paranormal landscape.
I enjoyed both Brendan and Cordelia, from their interaction with the town to the way they were together. We get a romance that took a little while to develop as Cordelia has issues with her gift and I rooted for them.
A lot happens with regard to the league and the rift. So much so that I worry this may be the last. However, a quick search assures me two more audiobooks are in the works..and I am delighted!
Humor, pie and danger await you in this installment. The league arrives and things get pretty tense, but Harper pulled me in and I devoured this in almost a single sitting.
Amanda Ronconi and Jonathan Davis narrated as the chapters alternated between Cordelia and Brendan. I enjoy getting both of their perspectives. The narrates nail the humor and snark and have become the voices for this series.

light listening, but painful accents
If you've never met an irish or english person you'll be fine.
It's in the plus catalogue so for a free book it's pretty good. The instant attraction all the protagonists feel in this series is a bit heavy handed but it's entertaining light fantasy.

good plotline idea
i was wondering how Molly was going to bring this all together and I have to say, it was done in a "ok that's plausible for mystic bayou" way.
the dust cover read rather angsty and dangerous but true to Molly's series, she's kept it light, funny and .....strange.
Cordelia was perfect to Bring it all about and the pun on the sentients name made me smile.
some reviews have said this was the least of the faves that they have read. also the accent shift/drop was a bit frustrating.
I have to agree with the accent point as it did throw me when the narrators slipped out of accent and Into American.
the only other comments I'd make is that there was a few slip ups on the storyline....something mentioned then was claimed that one didn't know about that said mentioned...( no spoliers)
the humour wasn't as funny as the previous books, it fell a little flat, even Zed didn't come up with as many one liners as he normally does, although there were some moments.
so all in all, in my opinion, the plotline held the story together with more strength than the characters and their ongoing antics. which normally has been the reverse in previous books. I guess it had to seeing as this was the final "shoe dropping".
still love the narrators, looooove Zed, will read the rest of the series

Zed is my fav :)
The characters in this series are really growing on me - I've really come to love Zed's character, more so in the last couple of books than when I listened to the second book in the series where he featured as one of the main characters. He is just one big loveable and sweet bear shifter - Cordelia's first interaction with Zed in Always Be My Banshee was SO CUTE!
As usual, I did enjoy the performance of both narrators.........however it took me a little bit to get used to the different accent they both assigned to Brendan's character, I wasn't noticing it so much the further I got into the storyline as I was more invested in what was happening and able to ignore the difference by that stage

Lacklustre
It's great to be back in the Bayou, but I think this novel is the weakest in the series. Despite characters usually falling fast in love, here they seem to fall with almost no reason & it takes a long time to really care about their relationship. The main male character isn't as appealing as usual and that's not just due to his eerie Magique nature. I think Harper's writing simply wasn't very inspired this time round. The narrators are also a bit off their game, struggling more than usual with the Irish accent. Still, anytime spent imagining Mystic Bayou is enjoyable so I shall keep following.

not as good as the others
the romance and backstory for the male interest were a little lacklustre in this one. the resolution to everyone's problems was a little too simple. good performances by the narrators, but I found the differences between the accents given to the same characters by the narrators off-putting. I was also confused by the difference in accents given to characters who grew up in the same town.

Don’t judge this book by its cover photo or title’
Truly, don’t judge this book by the super corny title and cover photo. They are both so cheesy and mills and boon and the book is anything but!
I loved the story, and thank my friend who convinced me to listen. Think Harry Potter - but instead of wizards - it’s shape shifters, and dragons living in secrete trying not to let the muggles discover them. And then instead of the main characters being teenagers, they are adults.

again another enjoyable easy listen!
I felt the story line had a little more oomph, in comparison to previous books in this series. As always the narration is fabulous 👌 👏. And again plenty of laugh out loud snort giggle moments. all in all this series has been a great listen while doing housework and craft. Utterly enjoying it easy to follow and far from boring!

Love this series!
As expected Always be my Banshee delivered plenty of laugh out loud moments. The interaction between the main characters of Mystic Bayou is always hilarious and lovely (especially Zed). The performances by the Narrators are amazing. Loved it!

another great book by Molly Harper ❤️
This is another great book by Molly Harper with the great performance by Amanda and Jonathan. It's a must if you like a great combination of romance combined with a great story with lots of laughs along the way.
