"Be where your enemy is not." (Sun Tzu)

The time has come for Commodore Jack Romanoff and the crew of the battleship Delta Orionis to strike back at the robotic Locusts. He’s outgunned, outnumbered, and commands a battleship flown by battered and bloodied reenactors and trainees.

Yet they must win.

The Locusts control New Copenhagen, but that’s the only place they can get nuclear warheads for their missiles. They must launch an alpha strike to take the system and hold it against all comers. If they fail, they lose their most potent offensive weapons and leave billions trapped under the invaders’ robotic heels.

They must not fail.

Highly recommend to all who enjoy space ships and fleet action. There’s plenty of series like this but the unique takes on familiar tropes are refreshing and entertaining. Keeps you guessing and wanting to know what happens next. Can’t wait for the next book.

I have a real problem with the way the writer handled the incident with the intelligent prisoner getting killed. It was written like someone who has no clue how to prosecute a war. The sergeant showed a couple of errors in judgement. First, all of the marines should have been armed. These are enemy combatants, including senior leadership. Second, they should have been totally immobilized and brought in one at a time. The Lt was totally out of place chewing out the sergeant and should have been reprimanded. When you are at war with an enemy who has shown no mercy nor a desire to allow the humans a chance to surrender the need for intelligence is secondary to the need to eliminate the threat. This is what happens when you give a “shave-tail” authority they are not ready for. Piloting a starship is not making on the spot combat decisions. That is why a captain or colonel

Over all the story was good

Really enjoying this series, and I'm a big fan of Kafer. My only complaint is that he, for some reason, decided to give existing characters accents in this book. That would be fine, but they're so wildly inconsistent and inaccurate that it becomes distracting! Still worth the listen.

fun series

5 stars all the way, another awesome book. I would have one question though; Did someone dare the author the make the narrator say “Pinas” 53,872 times?

Ummm
