Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author John Eldredge offers listeners a breathtaking look into God's promise for a new heaven and a new Earth.

This revolutionary book about our future is based on the simple idea that, according to the Bible, heaven is not our eternal home - the New Earth is. As Jesus says in the Gospel of Matthew, the next chapter of our story begins with "the renewal of all things", by which he means the Earth we love in all its beauty, our own selves, and the things that make for a rich life: music, art, food, laughter, and all that we hold dear. Everything shall be renewed "when the world is made new".

More than anything else, how you envision your future shapes your current experience. If you knew that God was going to restore your life and everything you love any day, if you believed a great and glorious goodness was coming to you - not in a vague heaven but right here on this Earth - you would have a hope to see you through anything, an anchor for your soul, "an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God" (Hebrews 6:19).

Most Christians (most people, for that matter) fail to look forward to their futures because their view of heaven is vague, religious, and frankly boring. Hope begins when we understand that for the believer nothing is lost. Heaven is not a life in the clouds; it is not endless harp strumming or worship singing. Rather, the life we long for, the paradise Adam and Eve knew, is precisely the life that is coming to us. And that life is coming soon.

Just what I needed

Really enjoyed this book. My wife and I just had a baby and this helps remind me self-sacrifice is worth it. The small decisions have a lasting impact not just in the moment. The author is great for this subject.

This book Helped me walk through the unthinkable loss of my precious daughter BERKLEE at age 14 when our house exploded

John has been a sage and a spiritual Father figure to me for the last 28 years. This book came at a time when I desperately needed perspective beyond this life to be the focus. Thank you John for being faithful!

He's Got His Oil!

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, and John's heart is in a great place, namely the kingdom of heaven. His treasure is there, and he can help you get yours there as well. Listen to John as he throws Jesus's parables alongside his own life experience. To those who have ears, let them hear.

You're in for a real treat. May God Himself bless you, richly and always.

Touched My Heart

Life Changing! This is one of the most refreshing books I've listened to in years. I was given this book as a gift from a friend. My life is very busy so I downloaded the audio and switched back and forth between the two. Ended up listening and following along reading most of the entire time... John has a wonderful voice and delivery. I'd recommend this method of listening and reading... 5 Stars and I'm reading it over again.

A reminder of what ironclad hope it was/is that Christ offered.

This book reminded or taught me what our hope actually is. All hope not grounded in the Eternal King is paper thin. All other roads are bleak and can only be walked with blinders to the soul crushing despair so evident in the world around us. This book pinpoints that the hope that Christ offers is so great and ironclad, that no circumstance can even scratch it. This is a book about coming home, our perfect eternal home. This hope is the only thing I have found that can explain the tidal wave of pain that wracks that human race. As a man that been growing closer to the King for many years (albeit slowly due to my own resistance) I was stunned by how weak my hope for eternity is. This ought to be one of the great foundations of Christ's mystery revealed: Faith, HOPE, and Love.
