Another great Logan Mcrae story

I am an ex-pat Glaswegian, and I love these stories! To hear the colloquialisms and slang from my childhood is a delight. The witty ripostes make me laugh out loud. The characters are larger than life but real at the same time. Steve Worsley does a terrific job with the narration. His timing is impeccable and he never overplays the drama. Reading these books myself wouldn’t be half as enjoyable as hearing Steve Worsley bring them to life. A great series.

Too much complaining

I’ve followed this series for years, but I’m losing patience with the endless grousing. I guess it’s supposed to be funny, but I’m finding it wearing. Too bad, because the plots are often absorbing.

Another Winner

I adore the characters Stuart MacBride has created in this series. If he wrote a story with these characters planning a birthday party I would read it. But another great crime drama in Scotland. Can’t wait for the next installment.

Disappointing

I’ve listened to the series somewhat in order and I love it! This was by far the worst one. Actually, it was the only one I didn’t enjoy.

Excellent!

I cannot get enough of this series. The humor entwined throughout the story makes this one of my favorites. Steel is a hoot as always and there really isn’t a character I don’t like. I hope there will be many more to come.

Great book, great series, great characters

Funny and grizzly police procedural set in northern Scotland. Highly timely and topical with references to Brexiteers and violent nationalists. Great narrator who, to this american listener, at least, expertly renders different regional and social Scottish accents.

Not as good as the last one but still really good

I thought his last one was a better story, but his characters are so well drawn, the dialogue so humorous and unexpected that any book by this author is welcome. Great narrator.

Oh dear!

I love the books by this author and have listened to most that are available.
I could not listen to this book as it was narrated by the author at what seemed to be the same speed that he types his novels.
I sent it back and trust the he will, in future, leave the narration to trained actors.

Classic MacBride

This is everything you want from a Stuart MacBride novel, winding plot, big characters you can care about, and funny dialogue that doesn’t try too hard.

LB

There was a story in there somewhere, amongst all the slapstick.
The saving grace was the narrator, who does a great job with the characters.

Time to die.

If you want Midsomer Murders you'll love this book, if you love Logan MacCrae you'll hate it.
This series has lost its way, it verges on farce with silly characters becoming totally ridiculous, ie: "tufty" "rennie" and "farcical Steele". It has become so pantomime that I kept expecting somone to shout "he's behind you!" just to complete the image.
Logan as a true grit guy, worthy of his Lazarus nickname went a few books back, and has become a shallow shadow of himself.
What a waste of a character😢

Logan brilliant again

really good story once again.
Logan still going strong lots of options and new characters with favourites still there. Roberta was a bit quiet but it made sense with her new role.

Another excellent read

Stuart has written another cracking book. Steve's narration is awesome, you can really identify the characters. The portrayal of the Scottish Police Service is gritty and enlightening. Shows it all warts and all. DI McRae is again saddled with the usual sidekicks he has endured throughout his career. DS Steel's rude wit and insubordination are classic. Although she does engender a sense of loyalty from above and below. Her dialogue made me laugh out loud on many occasions, She at times acts as if she is still the boss. Logan seems to just go along with it all. The story is fast and furious, constantly changing and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Just one point, BMW does not produce a van. Small point but valid. Finally, when is the next book. Not too long I hope.

Classic Logan

This is a real return to the classic early characters of the Logan series. Roberta is right back on form and the play between her and Logan drives a great part of the story. love this series!

Good storyline

I enjoyed the storyline held my interest and is topical to Scotland and its most recent referendum on independence from Britain.
Rather more gruesome than some of his other books.
But the New Zealand accent is awful nothing like how we speak ! It was more Australian than anything . Could you not find a real kiwi !

Never again!

Thought I’d like this as I love other Scottish detective novels but it was terrible!

The way the characters spoke to one another was so unbelievable that it ruined the whole book for me. If professional police really speak like this to one another I don’t want to know about it !!

I only listened to the end to find out how the storyline was resolved.

Sorry I ever started listening to this book - total waste of time.
