Too much complaining

I’ve followed this series for years, but I’m losing patience with the endless grousing. I guess it’s supposed to be funny, but I’m finding it wearing. Too bad, because the plots are often absorbing.

Another great Logan Mcrae story

I am an ex-pat Glaswegian, and I love these stories! To hear the colloquialisms and slang from my childhood is a delight. The witty ripostes make me laugh out loud. The characters are larger than life but real at the same time. Steve Worsley does a terrific job with the narration. His timing is impeccable and he never overplays the drama. Reading these books myself wouldn’t be half as enjoyable as hearing Steve Worsley bring them to life. A great series.

Another Winner

I adore the characters Stuart MacBride has created in this series. If he wrote a story with these characters planning a birthday party I would read it. But another great crime drama in Scotland. Can’t wait for the next installment.

Mixed feelings with this one

I've listened to the whole series. I liked the characters and the story lines are good. There is character development from one book to the next and continuity throughout the series. I do wish the author would take some of the characters' traits in a different direction, though. The constant complaining and the rudeness of some of the main characters are starting to wear on me. It feels like. it's getting worse. Apparently once promoted above a DS, they lose all ability to listen to anyone else and seem to always assume everyone else is an idiot. I've always thought a good detective would be a skilled listener, but not these people. As the series has progressed, Logan has become harder to like. He constantly dismisses what junior officers say and considers them to be idiots. He's being such an arse that I'm surprised anyone will work with him. I hope the author will rein some of it in in future books. Steel 's sexual harassment of every woman she interacts with and her inability to leave her own breasts alone is getting really old too, which is a shame because I like her relationship with Logan and in many ways she's a great character. Tufty and Rennie are basically the same character, and I like them both. I'd like to know Tara better, and hopefully that will come in future books. The narrator continues to do a great job and is one of the reasons I keep coming back.

Great story, Kiwi accent not so much

Brilliant storyline with usual dark humor and amazing descriptions.
But please………the narrator’s attempt at a Kiwi accent is…….excremental. He sounds like a constipated Australian speaking into a traffic cone. The narrator has been superb until this book…… but……yeesh. And yes, I do know what a genuine Kiwi accent sounds like.

another good book in this series not so dark

lots of twists and turns in this book with some further development of reoccurring characters. makes me wonder what direction the author's going to go in the next book or if there's even going to be one it's been at least 3 years for a book in the series so maybe he's done. Stephen Worsley did another good job on the narration.

Yet another great book in the series

Having read all the previous books in the series, this is the first time I have listened to an audio version. I was afraid the Scottish accent might be an issue, but thankfully it was just enough of it to make it feel authentic, but not to make the words undecipherable. The lector managed to make different accents quite distinct, so you could easily tell people apart just by that alone.

As for the story, it was standard for Logan MacRae books, but still really entertaining. Even though I managed to see a couple of small things coming and sometimes the characters acted a tad too incompetent in my opinion, I can hardly think of any bad spots or places where it was boring. What I have enjoyed most however, is the sheer ability of the author to make me chuckle on a constant basis, because of all the funny, authentic dialogue and very witty, sarcastic writing.

Overall both the performance and the contents of the book are an easy recommendation and if you are a Logan fan, this is a must. Now you do not need to read all the previous books to enjoy it, but long time fans will get the most out of it.
