Publisher's Summary

Born a monster. Destined to be a hero. Half-orc. Half-human. All hero.

Lugor is a half-orc, and in his world, that's a very dangerous thing to be. He dreams of becoming an adventurer, slaying monsters and delving into dungeons. Unfortunately for him, one cut to his skin could reveal his secret.

He's forced to spend his days in his small village, working at the smithy and keeping his head down. But when his world is turned upside down in a monster attack on his village, Lugor seeks training at the Adventurer Academy, where he can learn to become the champion that he was born to be. It won't be easy, especially whilst contending against an arrogant mage who is determined to see him fail.

With a steadfast dwarven elementalist and a sarcastic dark-elf necromancer by his side, Lugor sets out to prove that just because he's half-orc doesn't mean he can't be a hero.

This story includes the following:

  • Half-monster protagonist
  • Game mechanics in a fantasy world
  • Sword and board protagonist
  • Crafting abilities like enchantment and blacksmithing

An okay book.

Firstly, I would say this book is at least worth a read or listen. Secondly though, this book has a lot of issues which surprised me due to the fact it has a 4.4/5 on Amazon..

To be blunt, the humor is lackluster, almost all the scenes lack detail and depth, a lot of characters are just faces with little detail and not much behind them, the MC is a huge Mary Sue for sure, it is most definitely a YA novel and will be fine for many young readers but it definitely isn't a 4.4/5 kind of book. A final thing, the narrators are good but there are a few middling voices I would've rather had them reuse a voice with some slight tweaks than actually use in the book.

I'm almost near the end of the book but I don't really feel the urge to finish this book which is telling. I would range this in the 3.0-3.5 range at most. As I said in the beginning though, the book is worth a listen as it could appeal to you especially if you are a younger reader.

YA litrpg, solid 4 stars.

This book reminds me a lot of Harry Potter. That isn't a bad thing, mostly because I love HP. What annoyed me about this book was the constant pop-culture references. They added nothing to the story and only severed to make the reader go, "Hey! I got that reference." It makes me feel like the writer doesn't think they can stand on their own.
The other thing I could do without was the scraping metal sound effect they used to chapter transitions. It was way to loud and very unpleasant to hear.
Otherwise the story was solid and narration was great.

Been done before.

If you want a safe book that gives you everything you expect from a book called "Adventurer's Academy" and nothing more then this is it. Honestly I have yet to read a good Academy book. I mean that as in the Title. Vampire Academy and such. It is all just too easy. How he met his friends was just so lazy. There is basically no punishment outside of class. You basically get no interesting clas moments that explain the world and it's function. Also the crafting. What is with these level 5 smiths making these powerful equipment peaces and weapons. Why is there barely enough people to fill a class room the only people going to school here? Other then ten charaters there is a wash of gray faces at this school. Are there other academies and that is why attendance is low? I mean how small is this world dude? No exploration of the city and it's night life after they get to the school. Could have been good like Dante's Immortality or Coiling Dragon but this is it.

I really enjoyed this book, the m.c. can be a little whiney, but it has an interesting story.

I cant finish it. Im sorry

I tried, i really did. I kept taking breaks and coming back to it.

It's not poorly written or poorly narrated, Its simply that the main character is so cheesy and childish. The book says hes 20 years old but hes still getting into fights with his mom about what he can and cant do with his life. And just his general speech and demeanor is so adolescent that i had to stop. I'm sorry. The story is interesting, it really is.. but i just cant.

The main character is basically the opposite of the book deathlord, or way of the shamen. Its something i just cant get past..

Someone who doesnt mind so much may like it though.

Not the best perfomances.

The book and story it self its alright, but my biggest isses is the narrator itself. The voice acting was "good" at it's best but some character didnt felt right, didnt sound like you would expected to sound they sounded cjildish at time and some voices dint fit their particular character.
The book it self felt very empty in certain scenarios. For example: the school felt empty they never gave any background escenarios it felt like they and their class where the only students in whole school.

1 thing. Sword clang noises? Bad.

I hate I hate the chapter intro sword clangs. It hurts the ears on headphones. It’s given me multiple headaches. Who ever decided sharp ass noises as an intro to every chapter ..... terrible idea. definitely a 4 or 5 without it. Almost a 2 because of it. I hate it.

The main character is supposed to be 20 but acts like he is twelve

It really bugged me when the Mc would ask dumb questions also the dialogue was awful and it made all the characters so flat.

Brilliant! A must read!

Amazing! Great pace to the story. Characters well rounded but not OP and avoids typecasting based on race. Some really funny laugh out loud moments. I'm super excited for book 2, just take my money now! Well written and fantastically read.

Cracking Tale

A very good story and if sometimes a bit obvious there is some great humour and the use of SBT does wonders for this as the audio is very good .
Being the anti-hero type is quite good and i loved the supporting cast and skills being used and the additional crafting element is good.
The narration helped this along from 4 to 5 stars although my biggest gripe is the chapter end/ stars as the sound effect can be a little loud and sometimes grating .
I requested this audio and have decided to leave my thoughts on this.

Honestly it re-ignited my excitement for finding a good fantasy book again, the story is driven and the characters amazing.

Could not stop listening

I loved this book. I loved it so much I got it in audio and purchased the ebooks. The story grips you from the start and I like that it's from a different perspective than you usually get in this genre.

Really well performed.
