Acerca de esta escucha

Miss Lizzy Bennet realizes one early autumn morning that a change has occurred in their Hertfordshire neighborhood. Sure knowledge—a magical gift—tells her that someone is coming. Or something? Or…both? Something sinister…something good. Which is it? Could it be Mr. Darcy, their new neighbor’s enigmatic guest? He has his own gift, one that is haunting and painful. Will she be able to help him, even though so many other events are affecting life at Longbourn House?

Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy can hardly take his gaze off of Miss Elizabeth’s charming countenance. He has heard through the servants’ grapevine that she is a witch. An honest-to-God witch, not just an herbalist. He needs a wife. He knows he does. But, will Miss Elizabeth be the best option for someone like himself? Someone troubled? He needs to find out.

Audiobook made story better

3 to 3.5 stars (good story needs tightening up - see below)
5 stars for the narration in the audiobook

This is a paranormal/fantasy P&P variation. In this story, "witches" are not hunted or shunned but considered to be more healers but there is still much superstition about them. Elizabeth is one and with her knowledge she helps those around her including trying to keep Lydia from being overactive. Overall I enjoyed this story but I thought it could use a little tightening up or more explanations. As other reviewers have mentioned there were several read herrings / twists; some of those would have been nice to have fleshed out or a bit more detail (I wont mention those as I don't want to give away spoilers). There were a few P&P moments but those were quickly explained. If you pay attention you are given clues to who the villain is but you don't know why this character is doing things. Trigger alert for those that need it - there is an off page attempted assault of a female character but it is not one of the main characters. For those that prefer epilogues this does not have one but you still feel satisfied at the end of the story.

I borrowed the book on KU but couldn't get into it as easy (think that was just the mood I was in at the time). So, I bought the audiobook to go with and that was very well done and with Benjamin Fife's narration kept me focused.

Super Narration

Benjamin Fife’s narration elevates this good story to great entertainment. His realistic interpretation of Lizzy’s raven friend, Mr Odd, is excellent. The mystery and danger in the story are related so well with narration added, much better than only by reading the book.

I love a magical Elizabeth, and blessing her already confident character with the strength to stand up to Mrs Bennet is a big plus. Adding in a magical Darcy, who isn’t prejudiced against a helpful witch, equals a contented listener.

Mediocre JAFF

Benjamin Fife was perfect for this book because he is the best when there are animals that talk.

This book would be much better with some clever editing that reduces the minutiae and over done examples.

It takes a while, frankly a little too long, to get into the story enough to be interested. This is the only JAFF that I actually considered not finishing, but I pushed through.

If you have trouble sleeping, give this a try, if you don’t mind repeating chapters.
