Parker Ferro is fine.
Sure, he’s still recovering from his last case and his sister has started keeping secrets, but that’s just another day in the life of the Windrose of San Amaro.
Then the local werewolf alpha calls in a favor when he's turned on by his own pack, and the last thing Parker wants to do is get mired in the city's pack politics. Throw in the recent murder of a local cult leader with disturbing connections to the hidden fae in San Amaro, a long lost relative showing up to reconnect, and a group of brownies taking up residence in his car, and Parker cannot catch a break.
Hopefully he can solve this case and figure out some family secrets before everything blows up in his face, taking the city along with it.
A Shattered Silver Crown is a 120k MM urban fantasy with a HFN ending and an ongoing storyline. It cannot be enjoyed as a stand-alone.

I’m a little frustrated with the cliffhanger at the end, but as book 5 awaits in my library, I will get over it quickly.
Great story

Story: Note: This is an ongoing fantasy series and must be read in order. You will have no idea what’s going on if you read this as a stand-alone.
Holy cow - I’m still wrapping my mind around this book and will be for a while. So much happens! Kai continues to write super interesting cases, with lots of details that come together in such a satisfying way. The pacing of the story is perfection, and every single character and detail is added with thought and care, only making the story better and better. This book is quite long and I didn’t want to put it down for a single second.
In this one there is a lot of aftermath to what happened at the end of the previous book, especially with Parker. This poor guy hasn’t gotten a break since the series started. The tension and weight of everything Parker has had to handle since book one continues to build and build and build. The real question is how much can Parker shoulder before it all blows up?
I am honestly so nervous for Nick and Parker’s relationship. I trust that the series will end in an HEA, but these two have dealt with so much and cracks are starting to form with all that Parker keeps inside. Nick is all in, but Parker has a lot of reasons for being afraid to fully trust Nick with his heart. I really hope there’s no crazy relationship drama in the next book. These two need to TALK, get everything out in the open, and form a truly united front. Fingers crossed!
I don’t want to get into the plot because even the smallest thing might be a spoiler. Just know that I was on the edge of my seat and there were definitely a few times where I was genuinely surprised by what happens. It was just so dang good!
Quick mention of the side characters - there are a ton and they all add to the story in their own way. Again, Kai is very careful and deliberate about what is written into the story. And I love so many of them, but Sugar is hands down my favorite. She’s hilarious, but also very caring and helps keep Parker in check.
This is one of the best fantasy series that I’ve ever read and you MUST read it if you’re a fantasy reader. I think this is also a great intro to fantasy as it’s easy to follow and not a single moment of these books have dragged or had a forced plot line.
One of my favorite fantasy series with one of my favorite narrators!
