very good

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I found this to be a profound and interesting listen. The narration is well done. Mr. Johnston's voice is pleasant and lends itself well to the book. The whole book is told from the author's perspective and illustrates the steps he followed. He expands on each step he took with some of the psychological background around why the step worked. I think it is important to point out that these are not linear steps that must be followed in order. They are presented as examples of things you can do to find your passion and restore meaning to your life. All in all, I think this was helpful to me and would be to many other men who find themeselves just surviving and no longer living with much passion for life.

Thought it was an OK book

I thought the book was more about how Rick Broniec reclaimed his passion and the steps he followed to achieve it. For me...I'm still looking.

Very insightful

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. He had some very good points, explained things clearly. His ideas presented are insightful. Some very good ideas on how to be aware and accountable of your own actions.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Jim D Johnston) and I would listen to another. He did very well reading this content. His pace is good and narration style appropriate.

There are no explicit sex scenes, excessive violence or swearing.

A tool to improve your life

This Audio Book is directed at men and should be considered a tool among many others to improve your life.

There of course is no magic solution or formula to a successful life but with a variety of tools you have a better chance of getting there.

With a good Narrator you can stay focused and are more likely to finish the Book and even listen to it again.

This book made me think.

This book is interesting. It strives to give the method the author has found to help men live their most full lives. I admire the passion he has for this. I believe this book will help me be a better father and husband.

I must point out, however, some of the inconsistencies I see in this book. This book is written from a “new age” perspective with what could be generously called a liberal political bent. He seeks to increase inclusion of others, which is a laudable goal. Unfortunately, he does this at the expense of excluding others. This will not keep some people from learning the important lessons presented in this book. Unfortunately, it put some roadblocks up for me.

I will endeavor to make full use of these valuable lessons, and I hope every man can do the same.

Great but should have ended at 3hrs 15 mins

The narrator did a really good job with this book. There were a couple instances that I found myself rolling my eyes at over dramatization; otherwise, the emotion and inflection necessary was on point. I tried to speed the story up to my acclimated listening speed (I never listen to anything less than 2.0x), the narrator's voice started to sound as if there were mini pauses. in. between. every. word. so even though it was 'faster', it seemed slower and quickly became too distracting so I had to slow it down. A little bit slower and all was well.

If you have lost your sense of purpose, or feel like you just simply don't know what to do with yourself, or feel there has to be more to life than whatever you're currently doing; then listen to this book. If you want to think about your life and how you view the world or if you just want to be inspired, listen to this book. The author is giving excellent advice of steps that could be taken or explored in order to live a happier and more fulfilled life. He offers a personal perspective of what he did and the reasonings behind the steps he took that helped him discover a more satisfying life, emotionally. His reasoning and methodology was intriguing to say the least.

Although, I could have done without the whole "ism" segment, to be really honest, but that's just me.

The worst part:
I swear, I thought the author had made his concluding remarks 3-4 times. First was the initial conclusion at 3hrs 15 min, then there was another with the epilogue and then again with testimonials and then finally it stopped after the about the author. I thought most of everything after 3hrs 15 mins was either redundant or not wholly necessary to his message; actually, I kind of feel as though it took away from what he was trying to convey. Most everything in these segments was either already addressed elsewhere or could have easily been inserted in more appropriate places within the meat of book, thereby eliminating more unnecessary redundancies. He was a tiny bit redundant throughout, but it seemed a little more necessary to getting his message across and important in keeping the details straight. These redundancies at the very end, especially when the 1st conclusion left me feeling uplifted, seemed even more annoying to me because they killed the vibe.

Overall, the message was great, the writing was great, and you can really add some useful and possibly life changing things to your mental/emotional toolbox. I was afraid I might not like this book because I usually don't read/listen books like these; I'm glad I gave it a chance, I applaud the author on an exceptional piece of work.

Not very memorable

I received this book in exchange for a fair review but although it's quite short I had trouble finishing this. This is mostly about the writer's own journey with his life situation and is a bit self-centered or something. I didn't feel like the author was really teaching very much even late in the book. It is mostly about how he joined various fellowships for men which he did in order to become a better person and it seems almost like the book is really about how great these fellowships are. It never really hooked me or presented much.
